Hairloss Medication - What Would You Suggest Trying ?

Featured Replies

Hi Ladies

What medication or treatment would you suggest for a 40 year old women who is suffering considerable hair loss. There seems to be no underlying medical reasons to be concerned about but she was, until recently, rather prone to visiting the local hair salon to get her hair coloured and straightened.

At the present time her hair is thin, dry and brittle but I think this should repair itself with a little time away from the local butchers....errr......I mean Hair Salon...................its hair regrowth that she wants the most so what medication or lotions would you recommend please

Thanks for your attention

Sounds as if your wife's hair has been 'burnt'.

That means it has been exposed to too many chemicals and that is the reason it is breaking and falling out. Her hair needs a rest from all the colouring and processing and it will come back on its own. A good deep conditioning treament or several will help along with scalp massages. Also a diet high in fish oils, eggs and extra vitamins will help it to rejvenate.

There is, unfortunately nothing much you can do in terms of potions and lotions to make it grow back at this stage, the damage has been done. Lots of balding men out there spend a lot of money on lotions to counteract the hair loss, but at the end of the day only effective thing is a transplant ( or a hairpiece)

Boots Chemist have started doing a hair loss treatment for women, their own brand. Not sure if it has reached thailand yet but worth checking out.

Otherwise I would suggest intensive moisturising with leave in conditioners & avoiding all heat products, hairdryers, straightners etc.

Oh & IMO nothing sorts out brittle, bad hair than a good cut, she may have to go quite short but it will make the regrowth much healthier. Split damaged ends will run up, damaging new grown so regular trims are essential too.

I've heard a few females swear by a mixture of the pill and placenta :o

This might not be particularly relevant for dramatic hair loss, but there is one type of shampoo which I have noticed for me anyway means that pretty much no hair gets left on the hairbrush. Normal hair loss is I think is around 20-50 strands per day for most people and I guess I come around the bottom end. However used a shampoo at a friends house and then bought again at home just to see if it was the shampoo. Noticed that after using it lost pretty much no hair at all.

Most of the writing seems to be Japanese and it has what looks like a string of amino acid (design ) on the front. As far as I know there is a red or a blue bottle (red seems to be better). There is some Thai writing so will check and see if I can find a name.

Many thanks for your replies, most kind of you and it pretty much mirrors what I have said to my wife already.

I would be interested in knowing the name of the hair loss shampoo with the amino acid design and where I can purchase it..........

I think Selenium supplements are good for hair loss. You can buy it in Boots. Also a hyarulonic acid and/or MSM supplement is definitely good for hair growth and lush eyelashes but not sure if there's anything about it with hair loss. The brand Now (white with orange label) has a combined supplement but I don't know if it would be available in Thailand as I have never seen it in Boots in the UK, only in health food shops.
