Urgently Require A Source For Eye Drops For My Glaucoma

OK, I know it's my fault for leaving it the the last moment, but I have been buying my monthly supply of BETOPTIC Betaxolol 0.25% solution from Fascino in Pattaya for 3 years, and it has always been in stock.

Yesterday I went there for my monthly drugs purchase and was told that they won't stock it any more, as I am the only person who buys it!!!

Now just to put this in perspective - I spend something in the region of 20,000 Baht per month at that place, and they know me well, and all my drug purchase details are on their computer. There may be a customer around who spends more, but I doubt it.

On top of the fact that they aren't going to stock my eye drops any more, two of my other meds were also out of stock and they told me it would be 2 weeks before they arrived. Again, my fault for leaving it to the last moment - but 2 weeks is just plain ridiculous for an organisation like Fascino.

I now regret telling everyone about Fascino, as when I first used to go there, they hardly had any customers, and now every time I go, the place is packed with farangs.

So does anyone know of a Pharmacy that might have the eye drops as, I am completely out and don't know what to do.

I also urgent need a supply of NIASPAN 500Mg as I can't wait 2 weeks.

Thanks for any suggestions

Mobi,

Suggest you call the distributosr and see if they can tell you which pharmacies in your area they have supplied recently. Lacking that you could also buy a bulk supply directly from them:

The Niaspan (nicotinic acid) also comes in a local generic brand name Natinate so try asking for it by that name as well. It is a much lower dose (50 mg) so you would need to take many tabs at once to get to the same does, but other than the inconvenience should work OK.

Who prescribed your eye drops?

Might you be able to find out if an alternative drug is acceptable and available?

Strangely enough, sometimes there are legitimate problems at the manufacturer and the pharmacies have to go on a backorder list. Also sometimes drugs are discontinued in certain markets. Nevertheless it can be disconcerting to deal with it.

Here I've cut and pasted some other "beta blocker" eye drops (US nomenclature/brand names)

Carteolol (Teoptic)

Levobunolol (Betagan)

Metipranolol

Timolol (Timoptol)

Good luck. :o

Originally prescribed by my specialist in the UK, and subsequently prescribed by a specialist at Bumrungrad. These eye drops have effectively kept the pressure in my eyes under control and stopped the glaucoma from harming my eye sight.

The drops are widely used throughout the world, and is the main drug used to control glaucoma. There are no problems with the manufacture or importation of this drug. Fascino told me that they will not stock it any more due to the low demand for it - no suggestion that there is any problem in obtaining it. That is why I am pissed off.

Thank you for your suggestion on alternative drugs, and also thank you Sheryl for your advice and information.

Yesterday I went to a small pharmacy in Carrefour, Pattaya, and believe it or not, they had my drops in stock!!!

I will see my specialist this month and sask him about alternative drugs.

Still looking for Niaspan.

I use Lanaprost eye drops 0.005% to keep my pressure down..prescribed whilst I lived in the UK..think they are either 700 or 800 baht and last 6 weeks.
