Hi all, would like a little informed advice hopefully from someone who has tried this option! If it is really is a option.

I am 50 and would like to get a retirement visa in the new year. I do not like the idea of putting 800k in the bank here. A friend said it was possible to take 3 months bank statements to the British consulate in Chaing mai(I live in chaing rai) they can give me a letter saying I meet the retirement requirements income wise. I think I have to show 80k baht a month? So then I was told I just have to show this to immergration and they will give me the retirement visa stamp! Sounds a bit easy to me! lol So any advice will be gratefully recieved. As i mentioned above hopefully from someone who has taken this route. Also what else do I need. Thanks in advance.

The requirement is 800,000 in a Thai bank OR 65,000 monthly income OR a combination of both.

I very much doubt if the British consulate will accept what you say as it has to be income NOT savings.

Suggest you give them a ring and ask.

Contact details.

Thanks for the address of the consulate and clarifing the amount to be shown as income. My statements would show income not savings. Have you tried this option? Thankyou again for the answer.

You have three options to meet the requirements for an extesnion.

1. Proof of an income of 65,000 baht per month by way of a letter form the consulate.

Info here: http://ukinthailand.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for...ng-in-thailand/

2. 800,000 baht in the bank for 3 months prior to the date of application.

3. A combination of 1 and 2 that totals to 800,000 baht. In this case 2 does not have to be in bank for 3 months.

Thankyou joe...Good info Thanks again..The main thing i would like to know now has anyone been to the Brit. consulate and asked for this letter and is it true as a friend thinks it is that 3 months bank statements will do the job. I have enough monies comming into my account to satisfy the 65,000 baht. Do they want to see anything else? Such as papework from my accountant?

You say you are currently living in Chiang Rai, which means you will have to leave Thailand and apply for a Non-Immigrant O-A visa in the UK since the visa cannot be obtained in Thailand. It will be sufficient for you to show a sum equivalent to 800,000 baht in a British bank.

Depening on under which rule you are currently staying in Thailand it would be better to apply for an extension of stay based on a retierement visa, which can be done in the country, provided you fulfill the requirements.

You will have to ask them.

From Police Order 606.

1. Application form

2. Copy of passport of the applicant

3. Evidences of having income, such

as pension or interest of saving

money, or dividends etc. and/ or,

4. Certified Letter of having a bank

account with the Bank in Thailand

and the passbook of the account.

From what it says on the consulate website it can be done with bank statement for 3 months.

Ask him for a signed copy of his blue house registration book. (Tabbien Baan) just in case.

You can never have too much documentation.
