Funfair Fever

Featured Replies

For the past two weeks I've woken up sniffing with a half blocked half runny nose and have often had sneezing fits at work.

This seems like a nasty and ongoing case of hayfever, which I have not suffered from in over ten years. The colleague I share a room with thinks it could be dust from the carnival site.

I also get slightly itchy eyes and try to avoid touching them as my hands are always dirty - dirty as in how your hands get after a day out in Bangkok or London - and air con may also be a contributing factor.

The apartment I share is often like a fridge, I have turned it down and even off in the room I sleep in and it doesn't make much difference.

There is dry grass about here in Muang Thong Thani, could it just be a return of hayfever, and if so, how do I get it to go?

It's a horrible thing to have to put up with when you're doing twelve hour working days, standing and walking seven days a week.

P.S. For what it's worth I've been taking multivitamins for the past month, though they don't make much difference.

Cheers,

Bunged up Scampy

It depends on your but Chlorpheniramine Tablets (antihistamine) in 4mg size cost 10 baht per 100 at any drug store and help me when have allergy or cold. One every 4-6 hours keep me dry. This makes some people sleepy but I have not had too much of a problem with it.

Scampy,

I have suffered from this for many years and tried many, many remedies, even acupuncture and none of them work.

Some of the expensive nasal sprays work well but only for one month.

Can give your the name if you want temporary relief

I took an Atarax at work the other day and had a blackout...

Luckily nobody noticed as I was holding onto a chain at the time and woke up before I hit the floor, just as my knees buckled.

Felt a right <deleted>.

I'll try the honey and a weak antihistimine - I just hope it burns itself out, the sneezing fits are embarrassing.

Maybe you should give up the fags? :o

Do a search under alternative therapies ....there is heaps of advice available

fresh pineapple is supposed to be beneficial...as is garlic horseradish and vitamin c.....anything that boosts immune function...

maybe cut dairy as this tends to aggravate hayfever

You can buy the non-sleepy antihistimine tabs. They will not make you sleepy at all.these work for my wife, but I can not remember the name. Any good Phamacy should be able to point you in the right direction.

Good advice, but depending on the pharmacy they may not always suggest the best and cheapest solution.

Try taking Loratadine. Take just one 10mg tablet one time per day. It's a non-drowsy antihistamine for relief from cold / hayfever type symptoms. One blister pack of ten tablets costs only 40 baht in my local pharmacy. You can get another branded version of the same product that has one extra ingredient and costs about 20 baht per day. I tried both, and they were equally effective.

For reference, I've had "hayfever" type symptoms for the last couple of months. The last time I had similar symptoms was ten or twelve years ago back in the UK. I don't know why it started again. :o

10 baht for 100 tablets? :o I don't know about the drug, but it sounds very cheap!

Please don't take Atarax - I've stopped my g/f taking it when she says her skin is "cun" - itchy - usually because she's eaten some som tam and has had a reaction to it. The problem with Atarax is that not only is it an anti-histamine but it is an anti-anxiety agent too, and the following day you may feel like sh1t. My g/f always did until we realised that her bad mood always followed her taking Atarax the night before.

It is very cheap - I could not believe it either the first time I bought them. They are made by the Government Pharmaceutical Org here in Bangkok.

I know I know.

Nice to know I'm not alone here.

I got some medicinal honey, some Nerofen and a strong antihistimine to take at bedtime. I can't sort the A/C out so I just turn it off when I can.
