Which Ups?

Basically I have an Apple Imac 3.06ghz and wonder which UPS I should IDEALLY get to ensure a constant supply in the event of power failure. I rarely leave the machine on whilst away but we've been getting a lot of "blips" these days werein the power just trips for a second or so and I'm sure this ain't good for my machine!

Locally there seems to be 500, 700 and 800 (I assume KVA) but I'm not clued in on this stuff and would appreciate your guidance

I use an APC 800 with my Mac. Remember in Thailand it is not just for backup power but it also gives you a constant 'clean' voltage without the peaks.

APC is the only brand of UPS I could find that had the Mac monitoring software , and ive been using an APC on my

Mac , no problems .

I'll second the above ^^^, APC are THE manufacturer, not the cheapest but amongst the best (we only use APC for our secure servers).

Just out of curiosity what actually is the effect on computers when a power cut shuts them down?

I don't intend to be so naive as not to get a UPS but I wonder about the above

hi,

the computer will get no damage, the fear in case of power loss is of course the loss of any work being produced at the moment, interuption of services, corrupted file system or data, having to manually restart the machine.

I will ride along with this question, and am willing to be the naive one. Hope you don't mind Vulcan.

Never had a UPS, I just made sure that the auto-save is set to one minute. Not that much I can lose in a minute... .

Experience power cuts, lower and sometimes probably higher voltage, but never had any damage, just the inconvenience of a lost answer to a mail or.. well you know.

I never felt the need for a UPS. Please make me a wiser and better person.....

I found a 'normal UPS' last 12 - 15 months.........

So better to Buy a UPS with a changeable battery

Myself have 3, 1x for PC and everything plunged in PC related, the other 2 are for the TV's, Dreamboxes, DVD & Sat receivers.

Had to have the DM boxes re-flashed lots of time before installing the UPS, also 3x the Sat receiver, the the UPS is much cheaper than having repairs done + being without for 10 - 15 days every time, there away for repair.

Coincidence - same as me!

The newest is used for the PC and the old ones get relegated for use with all the other stuff. They give me about 25 minutes of TV when the powers off.
