Do We Need To Register Anything In Thailand Once Married?

Featured Replies

Hey Guys,

Just wondering once I have married my fiance in Australia do we need to register the marriage in Thailand or inform any Thai authority of anything?

Thanks

Aussie_23

No.

If it is a legal marriage in Aus, you are legally married in Thailand, there is no need to register it.

When you come back to Thailand your wife will need to go to the district office and change her maritial status and name on her house book and ID card. You will need a translation of your marriage certificate to do that. After that she can change her passport also to show her married name.

IF, repeat, IF she wants to, such registration and name changes is not a requirement. My wife didn't after we were married in the U.S.

Agree with thanyaburimac;

Believe it is encouraged and the reading of some info makes it look like a requirement, but not a forced issue.

thats right....

No need to do anything...My wife is still using her maiden name here on the Temp Res visa....when she gets the permanant visa we may look at changing it.
