Asus S101 10.2" Ssd Netbook

Can someone translate this Asus Thai site for the S101 netbook.

http://www.asus.co.th/news_show.aspx?id=13272

The S101's tend to be offered with different combos of SSD GB and OS depending on which country they're sold in.

Can someone confirm if the above link is quoting the 32 GB version for Bt 24900 and the 64 GB version for Bt 26900.

If so, does the 32 GB model come with genuine windows xp ?

TIA

Thanks for the links

It seems the XP version is 16GB SSD

32GB and 64GB models come with Linux.

If I bought the Linux version for the bigger SSD does anyone know roughly how much a computerstore in Thailand would charge to install a licenced version of XP ?

Hi bill, a few weeks ago I was quoted 3,210 Baht to have a licenced version of Windows XP installed on a new notebook , by the suppliers where the notebook was being sold .

TL

Hi TL

3210 Baht sounds reasonable, thanks for the info.

I'm in Cambodia so hopefully can get a similar deal over here.

When I bought my desktop here 7 years ago dodgy versions were installed as a matter of course. Too many problems with such versions now.

Found some more info on SSD size

It seems Thailand will get a better deal than some other countries wrt SSD size on the XP version of the S101. USA and Singapore only get 16gb ssd while Thailand gets 32gb with XP.

This new Eee netbook will be available in Bangkok from the beginning of November with a 32GB SSD and 1GB of RAM with Windows XP Home for 24,900 baht, according to ASUS Thailand country manager Pornthep Watchara-Amnouy....

....the S101 is just 1.8 cm thick and weighs one kilogramme, has a 10.2-inch screen and a keyboard that is 92 percent full-size.

Has anyone seen these in the shops yet and can confirm the above specs and price ?

Picked up the 64GB SSD version of the S101 from Tukcom in Pattaya.

Cost Bt 28700, no budging on price. Suspect they will be Bt20k within 6 mths.....

It came with Linux so licenced XP home cost me an extra Bt3200

Wifi and ethernet connectivity working well, havent tested Bluetooth yet.

Running Firefox-3 which has a nice zoom feature for text only. Makes viewing webpages much easier without having to scroll side to side.

Connected my 17" flat panel monitor to the VGA-out. The S101 will run both screens together but the resolution is down on the external monitor, but OK for my use.

Generally happy with it so far as a robust (SSD drive) ultra portable, only weighs 1kg, easy to carry on the bike.

Next purchase will probably be a Nokia E series phone so I can connect the S101 to the various 2-3G networks whilst motorcycling throughout Cambodia-Thailand and Laos.

Just found this topic as I have been looking for an ASUS S101 in Pattaya - could only find one in the whole of Pattaya Tuk Com and that had 32Gb Linux. When I asked about installing XP was told 'no have genuine - only copy' - don't want a copy. So does anyone know where I can get one with Genuine XP in Pattaya, or failing that where in Bangkok. Don't mind paying extra for XP so long as it is genuine.

I have internet cafe in Pattaya, bought all my computers etc at Tutcom. Each computer came pre programmed but also the "origional" hardware

Were they ASUS S101s and with GENUINE XP installed, if so can you tel me which store in Pattaya Tuk Com please? As I said I could only find one on display in the whole building - that was at the store at the top of the escalator on 3rd floor - 'Notebooks Galore' or something. And that had Linux pre-installed. Asked about XP and he didn't know so he asked colleague and then told me they could not get genuine XP only copy. I asked other stores if they had any ASUS netbooks but got only the usual 'no have' or the equally usual non comprehending helpful assistant's (sic) blank stare. Had hoped the bigh IT City store on 5th floor would have some but their selection was pretty pathetic to say the least, and no ASUS at all. Maybe I'll try Bangkok, at least have a better chance there of being understood

Last month I was shopping for a legit copy of Vista Business at Tukcom and know that several shops -- Hardware House comes to mind -- had XP as well.

(Perhaps I'm stretching the limits of the word "legit," as I think all these were OEM versions, which technically require the sale of hardware with the Windows OEM CD/DVD...)

I bought my S101 from Eastern It.com Co.,Ltd located at Tukcom Pattaya.

They got a licenced Windows XP Home for me from a nearby shop (Bt3200)

When I bought the S101 it was the only one in the building so I was pleased that it was the 64GB SSD version. It came with free Linux
