My girlfriend talks a lot and currently uses a 1-2-Call package that gives her free daytime calls for 239 Baht per month which is fine. She now wants to access the internet on her laptop as well, using her phone for the connection. I currently have a package also with 1-2-Call which gives me 20 hours per month Internet usage for 100 Baht but calls at 4.5 Baht for the first minute and 50 satang thereafter which wouldn't suit her talking requirements at all!

I can't seem to establish from anywhere as to whether the 2 packages could be used together giving both the free daytime calls and the 20 hours internet for a combined fee of 339 Baht.

Listening to the package details for her free daytime package quotes 1 Baht per minute for internet which implies that maybe it is not possible but speaking to the 1-2-Call customer services I couldn't make them understand what I required so I am left in a quandary. Does anyone out there know the answer?

As well as the higher call rate with this 1-call internet package you have to spend 300 baht+ per month to keep the sim card active so you can't have a separate phone/sim and pay 100 baht per month just for internet access. With Dtac you can get an internet package of 40 hours for 149 baht per month with no extras to keep the sim active (so you can use it in a second phone just for the internet as I do) but if you want to make calls as well they are a straight 1 baht per minute.

Just dial *138 and choose the Cheap GPRS option there.

You subscribe using that number.

I have used *138 and get 20 hrs for 100Baht myself but my question is if I can tack this GPRS option onto another calls package to get free daytime calls (239 baht/month) on the same sim card or if one package cancels out the other.

Thanks for the info Sumrit, haven't used Dtac for a long time but that internet package sounds like a decent option using a 2nd phone. Do you know the number I have to dial to get details and apply?

Just had a look on the Dtac website but can't see the package you mention. Everything looks a bit different eg 50hrs 199 Baht + 0.50 baht usage fee which is confusingly headed as Baht/KB and then shown against individual packages as Baht/Minute. Can't really tell if that relates to the internet usage or is may be the charge for making phone calls. Any ideas?

Yes, you can. I have 1-2-Call free calls to other AIS numbers 5am to 5pm for B239 (called “Daytime Buffet Package”, I think and also had 20hrs/mth Internet for Bt100 (plus Bt7 VAT) called Net100 Package. I’ve now changed to 100hrs/mth Internet for Bt350 (+Bt25 VAT) called “Net100 Package” and still have “Daytime Buffet Package”. In your case, you'll pay Bt346 (Bt339 +7) for the combined packages.

Just call 1175 (AIS Service Centre) and ask for both packages. Dial 1175, then press 2 for special language section, then 1 for English, then 0 for transfer to an agent.

We just went into the local Dtac shop inside Carrefour and my wife sorted it out. We bought an internet sim from them for 69 baht and they put it into the phone and set it up for us. We had the internet working on the phone before we'd left the shop and when I got home I connected it to my laptop via the Nokia PC suite I'd installed and it worked straight away.

They told us that if I go over the 40 hour limit in a month then the excess time is charged at 0.5 baht per minute so that might be the 'useage fee' your talking about.

Funny thing...

I just went today in a Telewiz shop, so AIS provider, here in Carrefour CNX... I stood there about one hour to really understand the "mess" (in my point of view!..) of all these packages. And OK, now, I guess I've understood... So yes, you can mix these packages, "up to you".

Very kind people! Really useful "meeting"... Very smiling and patient with me.

Cheers,

Gobs
