I have had trouble accessing sites on Internet using a GPRS system in Pattaya. I can access Internet, but I can only access a very limited number of sites. It seems to make no different if they are local or International sites. Anyone else having the same problem?

You do not say which provider you are using, I had endless problems with AIS and regularly switched to my dtac sim card. When I swithched back the AIS was working, strange I know and lucky for me I know have adsl line.

I am using AIS. Isn't it expensive using both systems?

I live in Pattaya and have also had problems accessing many web sites this past eight days.

I access the internet using a SOLOMON SEGM-520 EDGE modem using an AIS sim card and the internet has been poor at best.

Check the dial up number which should read *99***1# and according to what I heard the dial up number is causing the problem.

Here’s what I did and it cured the problem.

Dump the ***1 on the dial up number.

Dial up using *99# and see if that improves or cures the fault.

I created a new AIS dial up connection and now click on a new AIS icon which uses the dial up number of *99#

As back up to AIS I purchased a detac GPRS sim card from Carrefour.

The cost was 49baht for the card and 99 baht plus vat (top up) which gives me twenty hours usage plus twenty hours ‘free’ on a promotion that’s running until the end of December.

Buy the 49 baht detac sim card in the brown package and they’ll activate it at the detac stall for GPRS use then all you do is insert it into your modem and away you go.

The internet dial-up should be instant via your modem as the card is programmed at the detac stall.

So far detac seems to give me a connection at peak times something AIS fails to do.

I ran a speed test on the detac system mid-afternoon today and achieved a download speed of 165kbps with an upload speed of 67kbps.

I’m not a heavy user and that sort of speed is sufficient for me.

Hope this helps.
