Not sure if this means anything but I just saw 200 or so border police at attention and taking orders at border police hq in Phaholyothin. Coaches were standing by and police in the front to direct traffic. When they call out the Border Police, it's not a good thing.

I just heard a report on BBC World News a few minutes ago that there is unconfirmed reports that the Prime Minister may have left the country for personal reasons.

Bizzare!

Sorry Judas and Midas, I just read your posts now...you beat me to it by a few minutes.

Just saw on BBC that their reporter inside the airport said there are " unconfirmed reports that the PM has left the country for personal reasons" Does anyone have anything concrete on this?

Since Friday there was an Airplane on "standby" in Chiang Mai for Emergency (whatever that means!) to take off within just a few minutes!

Rumor?! Who knows!

Cheers.

Bizzare!

Maybe he needs to go to USA for medical treatment, or to HK for face to face instructions from BIL.

The plot thickens even further and the whole scenario appears even more bizarre

because BBC world in the 3.00 pm bulletin just reported the Thai Prime Minister has actually left

Thailand for personal reasons. In the reporters words it looks increasingly like

the governments grip on power is slipping further away

Their ELECTORAL MANDATE holds firm though.

Whats happening is that a few elitist fascist are staging a rear guard action for their masters. Democracy has been undermined by Army and elite.

Its a fascist lead Coup. Nothing else.

Transparency International Corruption index

2007 ------- 84 of 179 ------- 3.3

2006 ------- 63 of 163 ------- 3.6

2005 ------- 59 of 158 ------- 3.8

2004 ------- 64 of 145 ------- 3.6

2003 ------- 70 of 133 ------- 3.3

2002 ------- 64 of 102 ------- 3.2

1997 ------- 39 of 42 ------- 3.1

1996 ------- 37 of 54 ------- 3.3

1995 ------- 35 of 41 ------- 2.8

..[T]he implication of a score of 3.3 is that the country still suffers under the weight of serious corruption. ... seriousness of corruption in the public and private sectors, from health services and the police force to the upper echelons of government ...

Well at least we can take comfort in the fact that there are 5000 citizens at the airport who would NEVER fudge their tax returns, NEVER pay or accept a bribe- and NEVER employ illegal labor.

I see nothing in print anywhere on the net about this. Was this on television BBC or on the internet?

By ruining the country? The PPP will be dissolved in 2 days anyways. Why stand up a week before and ruin the country if the outcome is the same, on the same day? Explain that?

Did you miss the parts where the government was planning on amending the Constitution in order to make their actions legal (hence the case against them that the court is considering would become moot).

Or the parts where, in desperation, they are trying to have the judges impeached ? Which would likely cause the case to be tossed out, or suspended until they (the government) could ram those constitutional changes through.

Or the part where they, the government, were trying to grant themselves the power to declare amnesties and pardons ? Which would allow them to pardon their true leader, so he could return and take power again.

If PAD had not taken the actions they have, those changes may have already been enacted, and all their crimes erased.

Yeah, that's a democratic government all right. Break the law, then change the law to make it legal and allow them to do it again in the future. Then do more of the same in the future (i.e. electoral fraud, but now legal) to ensure they get elected again.

And some people apparently have no problem with that.

They just reported that 'is is reported that' the PM has left the country. No other details were given. Would being marched (flown) out at gunpoint qualify as 'personal reasons'? (---whoa- I'm kidding).

tropo,

I think we are well past the point in this ongoing saga were anything could be considered bizarre....

Believe it or not, that report still struck me as bizzare.

You were watching the same bulletin. They were taking us through the airport terminal showing us how well setup the PAD protesters are, mentioned that the police failed miserably in an attempt to remove them last night because they were hopelessly outnumbers and then reported that the PM has possibly left the country.

Didn't this smack of an absolute defeat of the government? It did to me. It looked like the PAD mob were on summer camp and having the time of their lives.

But the key word here is Border Police. They are never sent out in force for regular police duties such as crowd control.

It doesn't really address why they needed to take control of both airports though does it? They seemed to be doing just fine in blocking the government without invading the airports. Therefore a pretty unnecessary move that was only intended to provoke confrontation.

Are you sure they didn't say former PM?

Samak has resigned as an MP by fax from the USA where he is, presumably, undergoing treatment for his liver problems.

No, this is what they reported: "there have been UNCONFIRMED reports that the PM MAY have left the country for personal reasons".... And to be sure we understood that these were as yet uncomfirmed , they repeated it.

Well , the protest is going on not far from the government house where the yellows are hiding out . I guess that this needs a little bit more power then crowd control .

Samak just faxed his MP resignation from Texas citing health reasons. Man, this guy is playing both sides...

Oh Boy, the cork is going to pop. Here is my take on the process.

1) Coup.

2) Expect HEAVY resistance to Coup.

Meanwhile, the birds are all 'flying the Coup'. Tells you something people.

Get to a safe place and stay there. Mark my words.

You think a government that engages in vote buying (has been dissolved for electoral fraud once and is facing dissolution again this week) can really claim a 'firm electoral mandate? How many more times must the army refuse to stage a coup for you to believe it? And elite - don't make me laugh - what do you think Thaksin and his cronies are?

Oh Boy, the cork is going to pop. Here is my take on the process.

1) Coup.

2) Expect HEAVY resistance to Coup.

My take is 1) court dissolves most of the coalition parties next week for electoral fraud and 2) there is no coup, but there'll have to be an election - and probably quite a lot of ongoing problems during the 'campaigning'. After that, who knows.

Anyone expecting 'heavy resistance' to a coup is dreaming - remember the last one? They were giving the soldiers flowers man.

We are not there yet ... however , it can very well turn nasty in very short time notice . I've been telling that allready a couple of days . Relax , follow the news and watch your envirement where you are staying . Have a backupplan ready in worst case scenario ( this means , in case of civil war with heavy fighting , how to get out as save and fast as possible without using public transport ) .

Certainly agree that the report gave a sense of hopeless situation for the government. I actually can't see this being resolved on the Govt terms. A police force which seem to be half hearted at best and a military refusing to get involved for obvious reasons.

No disrespect but you are the one dreaming. This is the point of no return.

Ain't gonna' be no frickin flowers this time.

Well, maybe at the funerals. Fools, all of them.

Expect Chaos.

:D

Sorry to sound alarmist, but it's all falling into place and apart.

Sorry Thailand and the innocents that will suffer the most in this.

Thailand is facing a transition, and this will not be without pain. regrettable yes, but all western democracies had facing the same problems in the late 19th and 20th century. just look to Spain, Portugal, Romania and all the former USSR eastern Europe satellite states. and see how they progress since than.

Lets only hope that Thailand become a REAL democracy, and that the military keep out. And frankly I believe that the Financial crises will hurt them more than the current political situation.

IMHO the present government should step down, and an government of national unity should be formed, who organise an new election free from vote buying and corruption.

Hard for that to happen. It's not what any side in this actually wants, especially the PAD.

Classic check this out were a bit slow down under but the girls are hot even by Thai standards

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=676153

There we have it, PAD paying parents to send their children to go protest. Disgusting. When I said PAD was at my Soi's market recruiting and offering money to anyone who whould drive with them to Suvarnabhumi, nobody believed me.

Exactly, there we have it.

Some people will believe ANYTHING as long as it suits them.
