Write Protected Memory Cards

I have been using the same memory card for several years with no problems downloading pictures onto my PC, today when I tried to download I get a message saying the card is write protected and I must first remove this protection. How do I do it?

There is a slider on one side of the card that locks the card. See the picture below and try to slide it to the correct position.
