I am 30 years old and from the U.S.A.

I entered into Thailand on September 10th, 2008 with my wife. We are both on NIV type "O". She received the correct exit stamp that says "Visa Class" O and the date says 8 Dec 2008 but my stamp incorrectly says "Visa Class" 30 and the date is 9 Oct 2008.

Obviously, I should have noticed sooner than now or even better while I was in the airport entering into Thailand but this is my first time entering into a country on a visa so I did not know where to look. Call me stupid----I would agree with you. I'm just looking for some help to fix the problem.

We will be doing our first border run in Maesai on December 8th. How do I avoid being classified as an "overstayer" and having to pay a large penalty? Any advice is welcome.

Thanks

You need to visit immigration as soon as possible. They would normally fix this type of error for free but in this case they may nab you for overstaying the erroneous stamp (yes I know it's daft but This is Thailand).

AH, I see you'll be doing your run on the 8th so no time to visit immigration (they won't be open tomorrow). I suppose you're best off pleading with the chaps at the border but make sure you have the requisite funds available to pay the overstay (500 per day to a maximum of 20,000).

This could be an expensive reminder to check, check, check your stamp :o

EDIT. Please let us know how you get on, always useful to have real reports :D

Thank you Crossy for the reply. Is there an immigration office in Chiang Rai I could visit on Monday before going to Maesai?

I believe there is, no idea where it is though :o
