Wifes Uk Sv

Featured Replies

Hi,

My wife has been here now around 11 months and I would just like to know if she is allowed to apply for loans, current accounts (with overdrafts), phone contracts, tv finance etc etc.

Maybe a stupid question but is she allowed to apply for these things while on a 2 year sv? or can she only apply for these things after she has got ILR?

Many thanks

Scotty

My wife has a phone contract credit card etc without any problems.

Simple answer is; yes, she can.

However, as she has no real credit history in the UK she may find some banks etc. reluctant to issue her with a credit card, loan, overdraft etc. until she has been here longer. Shop around.

I agree with 7by7, you can but might find it difficult.

But....if you really want to get into the same boat of most of the rest of the UK population, give it a go.

Your best chance is to start with something like a basic bank account with no credit/overdraft, then something with a debit card and build up rather than applying straight away for a car loan on that new Rolls Royce.

Yes she can scotty but i agree with DC1066 and 7by7.

However, a british woman with a credit card is bad enough but a Thai woman :o:D
