I'm interested to know if any four-star, branded hotels have slashed rates in Bangkok in lieu of the political hiccups. Interested in something near a skytrain stop in central BKK (preferably Sukhumvit or Ploenchit) for a 4-day stay in mid-December. Any recommendations out there?

Because of the prospected awaited losses cause the missing tourists the hotel rate might increase do help keeping down the loss of income...

Airfares are up , hotels are the same, you dont get any change out of LOS (if you are a Brit anyway)

I would believe what you said except the post you responded to just said some hotels were slashing prices according to a news article. Forgive me if I trust a news source more than your belief, even if it is the Nation. But go on believing what you believe because of "experience." It's true that in Thailand many hotels do not use common pricing practices and when times are tough inexplicably raise prices, but it's not true for all of them. Many are run by foreigners more accustomed to this strategy and you will definitely see some lower rates out there these days.
