My wife has been gifted three small gems - not sure what they are - and wants them set into a half Baht gold ring. We have been quoted 10,600 Baht to do this and I'm wondering if this is a reasonable price. The gold should cost less than 7000 Baht at current prices so we are being quoted 3,600 baht for the work. This seems a bit excessive as when buying 'ready made' jewelry the cost of manufacture is usually only a small percentage of the gold cost.

Anyone know if this is a reasonable charge or is a rip-off factor operating? I don't think that this is a dual pricing scam, by the way, as my wife went to the shop alone so there is no farang involvement.

Thanks,

DM

It sounds a bit pricy to me, why not try other gold shops for a quote, that will answer your question about are you being ripped off. :o

Yes, I've suggested that she should do this. It would be good to get some idea of the 'proper' price though.
