Help With Thailand Visa Questions And Rental Of Lodging

Hello, I have a couple questions and hoping for some advice..

First time heading to Thailand. Bought ticket for 4 months and hoping to find a place to rent a small flat or house..wondering on some good places with low key atmosphere(less touristy)where I can rent for low cost, perhaps 3,000 to 9,000 Baht per month/

Also, set up trip spur of the moment, so have a 4 month stay and no visa...can someone tell me if I can get a 60 day at airport on arrival and then go to Laos for another 6o day to cover my 4 months in country. At present I have only a ticket and not enough time to apply for a visa before leaving. Thanks and any help will be greatly appreciated. Felipe

What nationality are you?

Obviously depends on nationality, but assuming you're from a country where you can get 30 days on arrival, you'll have to go to a neighbouring country within that 30 days and get a tourist visa, which is good for 60 days, PLUS a further 30 day stamp from immigration within Thailand (cost of extension is 1900b). This method will give you about 116 days in total.

Where do you want to live? That will determine how much you spend on accommodation. General rule of thumb is the less touristy the area, the cheaper the rent.

Thanks for reply- I am a US citizen-a fiction writer trying to make it, but I am not a travel writer and have always refused to disclose locations or information on the beautiful places I've discovered in my 30+ years of low key travel; any info on nice areas to live will remain secret should anyone be kind enough to offer ideas on where I might hole up cheaply and without being too touristy a place. I also need to figure out how to pull 4 months of visa with the most ease. Thanks, Felipe

Thanks for the time. I am a US citizen, please don't hold it against me. I am a fiction writer looking for a place to hole up and work for the next 4 months(I don't ever write travel pieces and will not disclose any places you may offer for me to check out) Hoping for an area that is not too touristy, low key, a good watering hole is always nice when the words don't cooperate -some ocean access is never bad either-and serious travelers no worries, just no over the top tourist hel_l .........The visa thing-need to make 4 months and coming into the airport with only a return ticket 4 months from my arrival. Is it possible to get a 60 day at airport and then extend another 60 in Laos? Thanks again fore any held, Felipe

You should get a 2 entry tourist visa before you leave the states. Using fedex, UPS or express mail you can have it in 3 or 4 days. You will get 60 days on arrival and getting a 30 day extensions at immigration will give you 90 days each entry.

Using the pull down menu at the top this page you can get list of honarary consulates. I can reccomend Houston from personal experience. If you mail in to where your application gets there Monday to Thursday they will get it done the same day it arrives and on it's way back to you.

You can download the application form at this site also.
