Supporters of former Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra, popularly associated as those wearing red shirts, has been planned for Sanam Luang on December 28, eve of the day the new government is scheduled to declare its policy statement before Parliament.

Veera Musigapong, co-host of the Truth Today talk show and leader of the red shirts, said yesterday (December 19) the Cabinet of Abhisit Vejjajiva had no legitimacy to run the country and that many of his likely Cabinet members were unacceptable.

"We are calling for a large rally on December 28 at Sanam Luang. It's because we have no trust in this government from the beginning. We will call on this government to dissolve the House of Representatives as soon as it completes announcing its policy statement before Parliament," he said.

Veera said it remained undecided whether the protesters would move on to Parliament, where Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva will read out his policy statement before the House. Also he said protest leaders had not yet decided whether to continue the rally for a long period.

Veera said his group found that certain likely members of the new Cabinet were unacceptable. Democrat MP Kasit Piromya, tipped to become foreign minister, was involved with the People's Alliance for Democracy, which illegally occupied Government House for months before seizing Bangkok's two airports, he said.

First Army commander Lt-General Kanit Sapithak, yesterday warned against "creating more confusion in the country", saying differences of views were common in a democracy but that they should not develop into chaos.

"Our country has experienced confusion and much damage. Now our democracy is going ahead … In addition to making ourselves and our families happy, we must also make sure there is peace in the country," he said.

Yesterday, 300 red shirts laid siege to the Dusit police station to demand release of Chokchai Kamlue, arrested for damaging vehicles and injuring MPs on the day the House voted to select a new prime minister. The protesters also blocked a road near the police station with taxis.

They accused police of unfair treatment for failing to get tough with the yellow-shirts, referring to followers of the anti-Thaksin People's Alliance for Democracy.

Station superintendent Police Colonel Chakrapap Sukontharat told the crowd the man was in court detention at the time. The officer showed them a document to convince the protesters, who later dispersed.

A group of 200 red shirts also gathered at the state-run NBT channel to demand why Truth Today had been replaced by other programmes for a few days.

Suriyong Hunthasan, director of NBT, explained that although the Truth Today producers' contract had a month to go, station management saw a need to broadcast other programmes in the prime-time slot from time to time.

In Chiang Mai, Kanyaphak Maneechak, a local leader of the red shirts, said that some 800 would today protest at the house of Chiang Mai MP Norapol Tantimontri, who recently voted to support Democrat leader Abhisit as new PM.

Norapol said he had some business in Bangkok today but that his family would welcome the protesters with food and drink in his absence.

DAAD to rally at Sanam Luang for 3 days

The Democratic Alliance Against Dictatorship announced Tuesday that it will hold demonstrations at Sanam Luang for three days to protest against the Democrat Party for "robbing" the government leadership from the Pheu Thai.

The DAAD leaders held a meeting the FM92.75 community taxi radio station and reached an agreement to hold the three-day demonstrations.

The rally will begin Tuesday evening.

No matter which side you support, it appears from news reports that the redshirts have committed a greater number and greater degree of violent offences than the Pad. The redshirts have thrown bombs at Pad rallies in Bangkok, beat Pad supporter's father to death in Chiang Mai and been implicated in a couple of drive-by shootings.

Didn't the police arrest the driver of a pick-up, driven violently at them, whatever did happen to him ? Also the alleged-hijackers of a bus were arrested. Didn't some of the PAD-leadership also get arrested at times ?

Some posters (not directed at you Gravelrash) rightly accused the police of inaction, over the past few months, would they now also criticise them when they do act ? Make your minds up !

I think it is good that the red-shirts enjoy the same freedom, as the PAD, to hold a peaceful demo. I would not regard biased police or courts as good, and didn't claim it was, I think ?

Neither the red-shirts nor the PAD are a party.

The red-shirts don't need to be a party because they support a party. Furthermore, they were created after the PAD, based on PAD model.

The problem is with the PAD. Officially, they do not support any party and no party supports them. How convenient! What would happen if they were a party? And people who support the PAD call themselves democrats.

(Actually, as long as it is with a small "d" and it just means you support Abhisit … Just one more cheap copy bought in Pantip …)

Did you know that in Aug this year, PAD said they were majority of Thais fighting for something?

A well known DJ in Khon Kaen received a phone call from Thaksin last week where he stressed that Sam, the wimpy ex- soap opera star standing for Peua Thai must win the governor's position in Bangkok.

According to the DJ, Kwanchai, the thuggish community radio host in Udon, received 3 million baht for red shirt activities; whilst the Truth Today leaders received 5 million baht each.

This rallying is sure worth it financially, no wonder the boys want to keep going.

You are long enough on the forum to know what happened there. The red shirts attacked the PAD, but instead elderly women they took the truck with the guards by mistake.

The PAD overreacted, but they got attacked and defended themself. They didn't drive the truck somewhere to attack the red shirts. The red shirts attacked them.

It could be also a killed PAD guard. Killed by government supporter. Actually PAD told that they don't know this guy. PAD found a few times undercover police and just kicked them out. One time they put them on the stage, but didn't harm them.

Khun Thaksin is still a lot cleaner than Democrat Party who allowed Somkiat and Kasit to block airports stopping 350,000 tourists from going home. Khun Thaksin had money, made more money and protects his hard earned money. Do you support those who only know how to destroy the whole Thailand's tourism and export business because they couldn't win elections?

They are free to protest but blocking Government House and airports is just so wrong.
