Xmas At The Upper School

Was sitting outside the salon yesterday and the headmistress of the local upper school called in, Her and mrs spoke in thai for a while then mrs asked me if i would go to the school miday 25 dec and give out presents for the kids, and any other falangs we know, i said yes of course i will and an english and a german mate have agreed to come along too,

This is my 3rd xmas here, and although i been asked to go read books to the kids when i have time,this is the 1st time as Santa Claus, now, do we have to dress up? or will a red & white bobble hat and a cotton wool beard suffice? TIA..

The last travel to teach couple were here at Kratong, and none since, perhaps this is why we have been asked?

If you're going to do it you might as well do it properly. Dressing up is the way to go...

I would think that if they wanted you to dress up, the least they'd do is tell you.

The most, provide a costume.

As your wife exactly what was said to her. Have her call the school and confirm that you'll be there, and ask pertinent questions about attire.

When I had to be Santa in Lanna-Land, I did not get to choose to come as the Harem-Keeper of Harinpunchai. Full santa costume was provided, top and bottom, fake beard and cap. I was assisted by Lanna-Loony older matayom students, decked out in red and white Santa regalia, no beards. As suggested, have the wife call back and clarify. It was fun.

I've done the Santa Clause gig a few times for a friend's kids, the whole Santa Clause costume and so forth. Helps to stick a pillow under the coat to look adequately portly.

Give a hearty "Ho Ho Ho!" every so often.

The head mistress called today with an offical letter of events ect, of course it is in Thai with a few english words, like Chorus, Speed, Talented contest, and she also told me that there are 1800 pupils to buy presents for,would us falangs like to make a contribution? so 4 of us got it up to 4000bht which hopefully the other buisness people in the area will contribute the same or more,

As for dress, it seems formal is ok, but we will try to get the red & white bobble hats,

Motivation for this, a good question, being a father of 2 good kids in the UK, daughter is a pharmacist with a masters degree and letters after her name,and mother of 2, son is at the top of his profesion as a printer for front cover magazines, Thai mrs son is a dentist and daughter is in uni training to be a pharmacist, and they all enjoy what they are doing, yes, we all know teens go through a phase, the dont give a shit phase.

Mrs & me will be going to the school on my Yamaha 1200,friend in his new Yaris, other 2 mates on new 125 Wave and Mio, its not a rich falang statement, its what you can have if you get your head down and work for it.

something about your last reply really rubs me the wrong way. could be the roll call; could be the showing off -- not sure. btw, none of those modes of transport would remotely qualify someone as "rich" lol
