Dismay At Proposed Cabinet

I can just imagine the interview process

INTERVIEWER: What achievements make you qualified to be commerce minister

PIMP: I sold p*$$y

INTERVIEWER: I don’t think that qualifies you

PIMP: You don’t understand, I sold p*$$y at a premium price, I was changing 4-5* the normal rate.

INTERVIEWER: I am not sure that qualifies you

PIMP: I have a few pictures that people may be interested in

INTERVIEWER: When can you start?

:o:D

:D Whatever else, I think brahmburgers has got to be a finalist for this year's ThaiVisa "Frank Admission" Award. :D

I'm not sure if the Customs guys come under the Commerce Ministry's supervision, but some of us already have first hand experience of them sizing up how much (cough, cough) "import duty" :wai: to try and demand - all according to what car you arrived in. 4-year old SUV in my case - Buddha help me if it had been a late-model Merc...............

Not to worry - Abba will fix it............. just not in the lifetime of anyone reading this. :o

"Frank Admission" Award + 1

Not in this life time? I was thinking with all of his new ministers it looked like corruption was finally out of Thai politics, and things were really starting to look up, I was having a real hope for sincere change :D Then you went and burst my bubble :D

Surayud Chulanont was a mass murderer and he was Prime Minister

And that has to do with the new PM that is supposed to clean out all coruption appointing a PIMP as commerce minister HOW???

There has always been a trend of appointing questionable people as ministers.

I know, and that is the irony.... The new PM is the "poster child" for ending corruption.... how are is recent appiontments different from the last say 10 PM's?

Another argument for "new politics" instead of the current system.

An ideal demonstration of "new politics" in action:

The appointed person fits the PAD description perfectly ----- "a non political..... socially active.... professional" :o:D

Bangkok Post

Business leaders have expressed disappointment...

Experience appears lacking in all three nominations, with Mrs Pornthiwa's background including running the Poseidon massage parlour in Bangkok and...

Mr Pramon said the commerce and industry ministers should have a knowledge and experience in business, trading and industry.

How did these business dealers recognize Mrs. Pornthiwa as "the one" who...? :o

It's unfortunate PM Abhisit has made a few controversial choices such as the otherwise capable foreign minister (forever tainted by his ridiculous comments regarding the airports protests) and also having to heed to some less than desirable choices in other cabinet posts such as the 'massage Minister' (as demanded by the ex-Thaksin/Newin camp).

Thankfully, very capable Finance Minister Korn will oversee the Commerce Minister and take the larger economic helm along with Abhisit. Ultimately, the Govt realises it must get up and functioning to take on some daunting tasks asap and will have to pick a better time to tackle the long-standing and ever-damaging quota system.

Unlike past Govt's, at least Abhisit discussed the proposed ministers with the Federation of Thai Industries first and openly admitted/lamented shortcomings (resulting from the allocation by party-quota system).

The quota system has made for laughable MP's in the past such as the ex-deputy finance minister who didn't know what value-added tax was but was then promoted to Information Communication Technology Minister... (there are many more examples, too little time to go into)

Then of course you have loyalty rewards in the form of Chalerm heading up Health (mostly defending the Chinese from melamine fall-out and proposing various alcohol bans). Not to mention his son appointed to fight social ills... :D and the list goes on and on.

The Cabinet party-quota system has to go of course but for the moment, Thailand has to get going again first.

PS: Square-faced 'Santa' may be landing again on Thursday rumour has it... 'IF' so, not spurned on by reindeer, rather grinches one suspects... :o

"King tells cabinet to work for peace"

Here are my messages to the Abhisit Vejjajiva's Administration: First and foremost, developing life skills such as respect and responsibility will help you feel good about yourself, build strong and caring relationships with others, and make your country, and community better. Here are ideas about how you can strengthen you character.

Responsibility: is making good decisions about what you do and say, while taking care of yourself and fulfilling you obligations. A responsible person is dependable and well organized. Responsibility also involves understanding cause and effect and accepting that you are accountable for your actions and your decisions.

Respect: is appreciating dignity along with valuing the contributions, rights, and potential of every person. Value the goodness in people you meet and the beauty in the world around you. A respectful person believes that other people's ideas, thoughts, and feelings are important. If you treat others with respect, they will, in turn, respect you.

Fairness: is living by the goden rule: treat others as you want to be treated. The world is not always fair, but fairness is a worthy goal in most situations and circumstances.

Wisdom: is the ability to judge what is true, rights, or lasting. Wisdom comes from knowledge and experiences.

Self-Control: is taking charge of yourself and your behavior, as well as making good choices and being accountable for your decisions.

Courage: is being brave when faced with a difficulty or scary situation and standing up for yourself, what you know is right, and what you believe in. Show courage by standing up for those who are being hurt or picked on, choosing your own behavior instead of automatically following friends' example, and resisting negative peer pressure to use drugs, acohol, or tobacco, etc.

Caring: is being supportive and responding to the needs of others with kindness and compassion.

Trustworthiness: is being the kind of person whom other people can have confidence in. Trustworthy people do not lie, cheat, take advantage, or steal.

Perseverance: is working hard to reach goals -- hanging in there and staying focused even when obstacles stand in your way. Setting realistic goals, being patient with yourself, finding creative ways to solve problems, and not giving up too easily when the going gets tough.

Cheerfulness: is being positive, friendly, and enthusiastic, while also being greatful for good things and hopeful that bad situations will improve. Show cheerfulness by greeting others with a kind smile and not whining or complaining when you are disappointed.

Dear Mr. Prime Minister, many people care about you and your government as per His Majesty the King addressed to your cabinets. Remember, developing good character will being greater success and greater joy to you and everyone in your cabinets. Here are some of my words of advice to you: Think before you act. Respect yourself. Work hard for the country. Have integrity. Ask for help when you need it. Do your very best. Use common sense. Listen. Lead by example. Be safe. Accept responsibility. Set clear goals and objectives. Challenge yourself. Tell the truth. Believe in yourself. Respect others and teams. Don't give up. Learn from your mistakes. Choose kindness, and learn more...

Well, maybe some of the members here in this Forum should sweep in front of their very own doors first and give this government and the people chosen, or otherwise appointed for it, a chance to perform!

How was this... thng... "he who is without sin, may throw the first stone!" Gentlemen! :o

I really don't understand the thought that making a pimp commerce minister is ok? Even being a successful pimp with international customers like animatic points out, in my mind does not qualify her to be a minister of anything

A lot of commerce deals are wrapped up after hours when people feel relaxed either in a bar, brothel or other such like establishments.

I think she has potential.

Seems a good fit with Japanese negociators by many reports....

Seems the other comments got edited as flame bait, not my intention.

It is what it is, and it isdone ' the Thai way',

my moral stance is not at issue, since it's not my government.

Actually didn't STATE what my moral stance on the issue was,

I was TOLD what it was by another because I made observations about it.

And didn't actively condem her out of hand.

We have actual not heard ANYTHING about her other possible qualifications.

We heard only about here former job, and it's perceived un-acceptability

as a job history for this job. Fair and Balanced. :o

From what I have seen the only complaints come from:

a ) the Opposition.

b ) The Dems who DIDN'T get the job.

Otherwise silence.

The way you see it is that, the PAD as the tools of the Business "educated" class, conive with the courts and the army to overthrow an elected Government. They have a Coup, set up a constitution, tear up the old one and THEN prosecute the prime minister under the terms of the torn up constitution. They they disband any parteis and bar any individuals that my stop their man getting the PM job.

When they finally get him in place, he has no power and is beholden to the very people they have been trying to get rid of this past 10 years ie, friends of Newin and a Mamasan of a massage parlour. Anybody that has ever been to Bangkok will know what goes on in there.

Then we should all sit back and give them a chance. You are whisitling in the wind if you think this is going to just go away.

Like Samark was given a chance? Like Somchai was given a chance?

Whoever has a story regarding her will be selling it now to the tabloids so its unlikely to appear on here for the time being.

Your post also smacks of desperation as you try to hid it in an item from the palace hoping that this will deflect critisism from your simplistic take on it. Try standing on your own two feet with your opinions.

I think this is a very good analysis of the cabinet.

In politics, there is often a reason behind the scenes for what is being done publicly. In this case it does appear that Abhisit is seeking a cabinet that does not owe Thaksin so when (if) he returns he can't snap his fingers and watch members of the current government switch sides. Slowly, this is an attempt to dismantle his support group.

Isn't it Korn that force the phone companies to sent out those stupid SMS. It is getting Mark V in trouble, sending out 10 million baht worth of free SMS.

I agree with the cabinet that doesn't owe Thaksin favors, short term idea.

Get butts in the seats that won't screw you as soon as the fugitive phones them.

Yes sadly you can't throw out 'The System' before you can get things moving.

And Mark MUST get things moving with whomever he can place in chairs.

AS LONG AS HE MAINTAINS CONTROL over them.

And not the last regimes pulling strings more.

We may not see the logic and we may HATE some of the players for logical reasons

from our backgrounds vs theirs. But there seems to be some logic at play,

besides just doing coalition favors. The worst Ministers will be discretely controlled

through their Minsitry's via the boss's back channel demands. And a little spying on them too.

And by Boss I mean Abhisit. A Bit of Thai 'Yes. Minister' if you will.

From the Bhumjai Thai Party, Chai-Nat MP Porntiwa Nakasai is the commerce minister. She was an air hostess. Porntiwa said that she is not working alone, but has a team of experts with plenty of experience and expertise in business administration behind her. Another woman in the new Cabinet is Ranongrak Suwanchawee from the Puea Pandin Party, who is the ICT minister. Her husband Pairoj - a veteran politician and executive of the now defunct Thai Rak Thai Party who was banned from politics for five years - sent her and their son to contest the Nakorn Ratchasima seats under the Puea Pandin Party.

MP Porntiwa Nakasai

Santi Wilassakdanon, the President of the Federation of Thai Industries, said that although the private sector was not happy with some of the Cabinet members, he was personally not concerned because having Abhisit as the head of the economic team will help restore confidence.

At least she knows how to run a business with a low cost, high profit formula.

:D

and when things get tough she can give the other minister a massage, maybe thats where greasing the palms comes in handy too.

Perhaps she might have been better placed in a Public Health role, given her expertise in promoting bathing amongst the general public in her establishment, does anyone have any relevant pictures to illustrate her prior career ? Gods forbid that they might post such images here ! :o
