Self Raising Flour

Featured Replies

Got my mother over here, on holiday, in Bangkok, and she wants to do a bit of baking :D

Does anybody know where I can buy self raising flour?. Either imported or local. What are the brand names over here?

Thanks in anticipation :o

We were presented with this same problem a while back.

Research as shown that almost all the flours in Thailand are a variant "Plain" flour but they do make a ""Self Raising" type which should be available. We scoured the whole of Phuket but gave up after I found some advice on the net that by adding a little "Baking Powder" and/or "Baking Soda" (which is different) to the "Plain Flour" you can achieve the same results.

We normally use flour by the United Flour Company. We have found the best results for cakes using the red coloured packs but the orange packs are just as good. Sorry I can't give their exact names, we don't have any packs right now as we store the flour in tubs.

As it happens, my GF is baking a Victoria sponge as I write! They turn out pretty good too.....

Hope our experience has been of some use. Happy Baking!

Foodland has self raising flour, at least in Pattaya they do

I believe I've seen it in Tops, too.

Villa Markets in BKK sometimes stock the red and white box Orgran brand of self-raising flour.... but its availability is hit-and-miss.

You can get it in Tesco Lotus, just have to look about to find it..
