He probably went to the wrong border crossing since he has to get a Visa On Arrival.

See the list of VOA locations on this webpage: http://www.mfa.go.th/web/2482.php?id=2491

I don't see any that are on the Cambodia border.

If immigration won't give him an extension all he can do is go to one that is on the list and pay the overstay.

Sorry I can't be of any more help than this. But I see no other options.

The current rule is that when a tourist from one of the countries covered by the visa exemption program arrives in Thailand without a visa he will receive permission to stay for 30 days when arriving by air, 15 days when arriving by land or sea. Germany is among the countries covered by this program, Slovenia is not.

A Slovenian national can get a visa on arrival and with that receive permission to stay for 15 days.

This information is on the website of Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

www.mfa.go.th/internet/document/ChartVisa.pdf

When travelling to a foreign country it is advisable and customary that tourists inquire from that country’s consulate about visa requirements when planning the trip. I would do so if I planned a trip to Slovenia, for example.

thx

they was here last dezember andd this year in june,,, nobody inform them about changes, nor the airline nor the touragent.

so for him,i think i advise him pay 15 day overstayfien at 7500 thb,,,bcs the only checkpoint is nonkai and its really not worse to go their and losse 3 days of holiday even bcs of new year,,when he hear this news in about an hour he would be very very happy. he even thinks going to immigration solve the problem,,,,, i hope hes not ending p in monkeyhouse bcs hes already nuts about it..........and i think they will give the immigration a big argument tommorow dont think can stop them from going to the immigration

Yes. They should have done their homework before they came.

1,000 Baht 15 days. Visa On Arrival.

He will have to exit and return over one of those checkpoints or go on overstay and risk arrest. Never a good idea.

There has been no change in the list of countries for the visa on arrival since last December and the rule for this type of visa has not changed since then.

If the Slovenian national bought his ticket from a travel agent he could have inquired there about the visa requirement for Thailand or if he made the travel agent aware of his nationality a good travel agent would have volunteered this information.

Understand your , and the guys anger and frustration, but it is his responsibility to check the Visa Regulations before he comes.

If he is going the Overstay route make sure he does not give the Police any reason to look at his passport. Good Luck.

Great news.

You will find that it is that way with immigration. Each office has there own way of doing things.

Did the farang in Pattaya tell you no on the extension or was it an immigration officer.

The next time they plan a trip he should get a tourist visa before arriving.

He is very lucky that he found a friendly Immigration Officer as he did not have to do that.

He was in the country ilegally and they helped him out.

no, in pattaya it was not the immigrationofficer it was the VOLUNTER polics farang sit at the desk, who told him

1. no extension

and

2. go to cambodia

both false,,i dont like this volunters running behind the thaipolice like dogs and without salary,,just for the feeeling i am an important man,,,,, even dont know and give false information

but great feeling of power for them

I don't think I would of accepted the turndown on the extension from him. I would of filled out the application form and tried.

I have read many compaints about the volunters.

The MFA webpage has the following statement.

Visitors who enter the Kingdom with Visa on Arrival generally cannot file an application for extension of stay except in special cases such as illness which prevents them from travelling, etc

So they can issue extensions if they want to.

But just a minute, the advice from the volunteer, according to your quote, was correct : "cannot file an application for extension". There were no "special cases" preventing him from travelling. Ergo no extension.

Why would anybody take visa advice from a policeman of any type or rank? Would you expect a London bobby to know the ins and out of visa regs? Okay a London bobby would tell you go to immigration, so the volunteer should have done also but judging by the OP's ranting he'd have been slagged off for not helping.

Next thing he'll be on here complaining that Noi at Nitnoy beer bar gave him duff advice.

@PHILHARIS

sorry this was the VOLUNTER at the IMMIGRATION OFFICE in PATTAYA he told not only my friend,,even others from POLAND cannot extend, you must go to CAMBODIA boarder.

if they dont know why they tell people like this volunters the star of the earth,,,,give them a good feeling of power

i saty 19 zears in thaialnd until 2004 visa easy and now in difficult times i read thaivisa,,so i no have any problem or rellie on false information of volunters at immigration or on officers good will
