Has anyone ventured into the new French sandwich / baguette / deli place opposite Sunrise Tacos, in the unit where the original Sunrise Tacos used to be? I walked past it last night and was very tempted to give it a try - but habit got the better of me and I went into Sunrise instead! I may try out the French place next time though, but has anyone else tested it out yet?

I was going to buy food at Sunrise Tacos last night but detoured into the French food place called "French To Go" after we stopped to look at their menu.

They serve crepes and sandwiches and desserts made of crepes or chocolate mousse and cake. They had some other choices for main course such as stuffed tomatoes and several gratin cheese and meat/veg dishes which looked interesting. Some of their food is shown in a display cabinet so you see what you are about to order. They have a few tables outside, a few inside and stools at a counter for 6-7 people. Decor is clean and basic.

Prices for sandwiches range from 85-110 baht with choice of 4 home made breads (baguette, panini, toasted bread or burger bun). Fillings include ham and cheese or vegetarian or tuna or bacon and 6 or so other choices. I had chicken basquaise which was chicken with red and green peppers, onions, olives and tomato and lettuce on toasted bread (about 3 x 6 inches in size) for 100 baht. I thought it was a very fair price and just right for a snack (for me). My wife had ham cheese and egg in a salted crepe (90 baht) which she also thought was good. We split a lemon cream sauce crepe for 55 baht. Bottle of water was 10 or 15 baht. There is no service charge or vat on the bill.

The main waiter was a Filipino guy. Owners are a french lad about 35 y.o. and his Thai wife who were there last night. They are very friendly and helped us with suggestions for our snack and told us a little about crepe making. They told us they had a restaurant before on Koh Samui (think they might still have it) and they owned a crepe place in France.

Food was good and prices are fine. Wine might be a good companion to their food but they don't serve it (not yet anyway). We will be going back when we are in the area and looking for light and tasty food at reasonable prices.

Tried it yesterday and thought, overall, it was pretty good but not without some slight room for improvement. I had a ham and cheese gratin which was very good and the small portion was ample for a lunch time large-ish snack. It came with a nice, dressed side salad and two slices of decent bread. A tasty and healthy meal. And, at 165 Baht including water and no VAT or service added, very reasonable.

What wasn't quite so good was the service - the staff were very friendly, but the food took a while to come, probably about 20 minutes which is pretty slow considering I was the only person in there when I ordered. Also, another customer arrived while I was in there and I overheard a complaint that their food came out cold - they had the same as me except it was a large portion, so they probably microwaved both for the same length of time, resulting in a good temperature for mine but not for her larger portion.

Anyway, these are relatively minor gripes, and besides my food was fine, and I can't really start including other people's meals in my review! I'll be back for sure. Due to Sunrise's recent price increases, I'd go to "French To Go" ahead of Sunrise for now.

As you go from Asoke BTS station in the direction towards Nana on the even numbered soi side, there's a courtyard on your left shortly before you reach Soi 12. In that courtyard is a Leaderpirce supermarket, a Pizza Hut (or is it Pizza Company?) and Sunrise Tacos. Opposite Sunrise Tacos is this new French place we're talking about.
