Recommended Posts

>>Also, the new rule is the money for 800K only needs to be in 2 months for the first extension, not 3 months<<

They said 3 months to me for first time application ,last october at Jomtien Immigration .

It is 2 months new rules in November

I would also update passbook at the time of getting the letter

thank you for detai information, but I am not sure of one thing

I must have 800K in bank for two months? corect.... what happens after... can I take money out of the account and use it for somthing else and live only 5000BHt on my account??? Do I have to have 800K only for two months only for extension

To my understending for retirement visa I must have 800K on my account for duration of staying in Thailand? I hope you understand me :o

Once you have your extension you can do what you want with the money. As long as it there 3 months before you apply again next year.

You have 2 options. You can apply for a Non O-A Visa at a Thai Embassy in Australia. The money can be in an Australian Bank. Here is information on how to do this from the Embassy in Canberra. Page 6

You other option is to apply for a Non Imm O Visa from the Embassy. When you arive in Thailand you can apply for a 12 month extension at any Immigration Office in Thailand. Rules here. You need 2.22

No such thing as a Marriage Visa. This is for a 12 month extension based on Marriage.

-- Probably will not be asked for but good idea just in case: proof of international transfer of the funds (the Thai bank can supply). Don't give them this unless they ask.

The letter I get from my bank includes reference to foreign sourced deposits. Nothing separate required. Since the funds are deposited in US dollars at the New York branch of Bangkok Bank, there's no "international transfer" involved.

-- dress neat[ly], no shorts, no flip flops but no need for formal wear

I always wear shorts & flip flops, as do 90% of the other people I see at Immigrations at Jomtien. It's possible to look a complete slob in shoes & trousers and to look presentable in shorts & flip flops. The people at Immigrations seem able to discern the difference since I've always been treated very well. The last visa extension obtained a couple of weeks ago took about 5 minutes, in addition the passport pick up the following day, which took less than a minute ... shorts & flip flops no impediment. :o

OK, if you say so.

My letter from SCB is in Thai so I don't know if it mentions foreign transfers or not.

A while back, immigration was indeed demanding proof in the form of specific foreign currency transfer receipts from some applicants. Check the database here, it happened. Then they backed off. Before that the CODES in the passbooks was deemed sufficient. Everyone should realize immigration can demand extra documentation from anyway at anytime. Note that I said:

Probably will not be asked for

I will add to that. WHY NOT get this paper receipt every time you do a transfer? You really should. Someday immigration make ask for it and someday you may want to TRANSFER THE MONEY OUT OF THAILAND. The receipts are FREE.

About dress, I mentioned it as a suggestion, not a requirement. Dressing nicely is a sign of respect in this culture, and I am sorry wearing shorts to an important official meeting like that is not showing very much respect. It can't hurt your way to show just a little more respect. I also suggest: no T shirts.

Very good information, you posters really are knowledgable.I will be in Pattaya looking for a 6month rental in 2 months.I will have 90 days remaining on my 1 year multiple entry visa.I'm retired and will make an appointment with american embassy for income verification(is there a timeframe for this when turning it in,ie 1 week,1 day?).My sisterinlaw is a supervisor at weekender hotel(at least that's what it used to be called)I'll be staying there until finding something.I have a few questions I'm unclear on.My bank account is with SCB(Huay Kwang branch-I've had no problems with telephone wire transfers and have made friends with the bank manager so I want to continue using that bank)When I go to Pattaya immigration(with required documents) with my sisterinlaws signed copy of her ID and a letter from the Hotel(with their letterhead)stating that is my residence will I have any issues with having my bank in Bangkok instead of Pattaya and can the Bank letter be dated a day or 2 before turning in the paperwork at Pattaya immigration in lieu of the same day? Also is a medical certificate required at Pattaya immigration? If so where would you recommend and is there a timeframe for this also? How about a criminal background check?once again same questions.I'm trying not to make this harder than necessary hope these are valid questions. Thanks all

Sorry, forgot these questions,if you move out of the immigration area where you obtained your 1 year retirement extension are there any complications other than notifying your new immigration office of your address?do you need to notify old office?more paperwork?more fees?and off subject I ordered a joiphone(voip)that allows free calls from states to me and me to states does anyone have any experiences with this?

I have a Vonage device with a US number. It works fine, online as long as your net access is online (which won't be 100 percent). Of course you need a high speed connection, it won't work with Dialup.

Bank location: no problem to have your account with a bank in Bangkok when you apply for your retirement extension in Pattaya.

Proof of residence: I believe it would be unreasonable for the immigration office not to accept the documents you mentioned as sufficient proof.

Age of embassy letter: let’s hear it from somebody who has done that recently in Pattaya, but a two-day letter should certainly be OK.

Medical certificate: not required.

Criminal background check: not required.

Change of immigration area: no complications. No paperwork other than reporting your new address to the new immigration office. No notification to the old immigration office required.
