Accidental Wonderfullness: Palo Duck W/ Hokkien Noodles

Featured Replies

I know many of us who do cook tend to cook the same dishes we have been cooking for years, or variations. But sometimes you come across some accidental deliciousness at the grocery store, so I wanted to share my latest accident It was so good.

I was in the Tesco Lotus and actually wanted to buy one of their rotisserie chickens but they were out but they did have palo duck. I randomly walked by the noodle section and noticed for the first time here Hokkien noodles for sale (chewy thick yellow Chinese egg noodles). I knew it was a match.

So, I boiled some chopped green beans (bok choy or Chinese cabbage would have been better) and boiled the noodles for about 4 minutes. The package had no English instructions.

Drained the noodles, poured cold water over them to de-starch them.

Then plated the noodles, sprinkling them with soy sauce and sesame oil. Sriracha sauce and sliced avocado on the side (I know weird but it worked) and then the duck served cold.

A real "bachelors" meal, ready in no time, all you need to know is how to boil water. And bloody delicious.

Those Hokkien noodles they have at Tesco are great!

Sounds lovely Jinthing! If you do some stir-fried meat and veg then add a good whack of sesame oil, soy sauce and oyster sauce - then add these yellow noodles and stir a few minutes - it's also a delicious way to enjoy them :o
