English Pub With English Couples?

Recommended Posts

Is there such a thing on the island?? I mean a very English kind of pub with English couples (or other Western couples) who actually talk to each other around the bar (or am I just dreaming?). Be interested to hear of any anywhere around the island.

The Green Man, Molly Mallone's, Scruffy Murphy, The Black Sheep, O'Mailley's in Phuket Town and very soon an English pub inside the Anantara resort(next to JW Marriott after the airport.

In most of the places you'll find a lot of couples(farang/farang).

Only the Green Man in Chalong is a true English pub, with an English owner (Howard). The others mention by Gerd are Irish puns, and Black Sheep used to be owned by New Zealand people.

oops I forgot the Irish Times pub in Jungceylon, owned by an Irish bloke, very nice man.

Sorry, as a German I don't see a difference between an Irish or an English pub :o

May be someone can explain it.

Ok, it's like the difference between a German pub and French pub.

Not really a pub but nice place to mingle with fellow expats - Watermark.

Get real ... the OP asked for an English pub. The Watermark is a restaurant, owned by an Italian.

Oh boy....I said it isn't a pub, but it's full of expats especially English. And yes, you don't have to dine.

No, it's like German pubs are known for boisterous drinking and joviality, and French pubs (cafes) are known for wine drinking and more civilised behaviour.

Irish pubs are well known for boisterous drinking and joviality. English Pubs tend to more a social experience. Scottish pubs are another thing altogether, hard drinking and fighting come to my mind (from my early adulthood in Scotland). These are my generalisations, and I expect do not reflect the thoughts of other forum members, so no flaying please .... :o

So I think so far we just have the Green Man. I know that one and we speak to Howard. We've only been there lunchtimes as it's a bit of a drive for us and it's usually kind of quiet. Maybe it livens up in the evenings.

I like the idea of the French pub with onions :o .

A German pub? Well I've seen something called the Gartenkneipe - I think that means pub, my Deutsche is nicht so gut unfortunately, though it looks more like a restaurant. Keep meaning to try it out anyway.

So where do all you guys drink? Where's a good place to just chat?

Well the Bamboo Bar in Soi Namtook Kathu is a British owned and run pub, British grub, Sunday roasts and much more. Open at 5pm Mon to Sat and 1pm on Sunday. Check it out!

Yes re opened.. And like PG's down the road all bills come with a 'optional' +10% service charge then VAT on the service charge too (illegal I am told) bill calculation. Even hotel rooms !!

Take a 2500 room to find theres a 250 baht per day service fee.. And then VAT on the lot !!

The islander in Rawai. Also has a great sunday Brunch, 240 B. Worth it.

Nope....admittedly the last time I went there was a few months ago, but it was English men/Thai women. If this has changed, I would be interested to hear.

I was there a month ago. An English woman cooks.

Quite possibly, but are the clientele still English male/Thai female? The OP wanted to know somewhere that English COUPLES went.

Quite plainly, I wasn't responding to the OP.

There is probably an English couple, or two on the island, but, where they drink is anybodies guess?

English couple?

One member can't be Scots, Welsh, Aussie, Merkin, Spanish, Croatian, or Belgian?

Does the OP mean English speaking couples? If so, why are Thais excluded?

This also came to my mind......

Why does the OP want to socialize with only English?

Posted (edited)

He wouldn't be the only one. Usually I see expats almost exclusively socialize with other expats who share the same native language.

If, on the other hand, the OP would be only interested in interacting with English, thus excluding for instance Whelsh, this would be a bit extreme.

I don't wish to socialise with only English and I do not. I have plenty of interaction with Thai friends and they are good company and other English speaking folks. But, in much the same way as I don't wish to eat Thai food every night (although I love it), some good English banter with other English couples would be rather nice now and again. And every now and again (not very often) I like to go eat some good English grub too. Sorry - is this strange behaviour? Do let me know if you think it is.

If the OP would be willing to widen his seach to couples of which only one of the partners is English, there are always a lot of recently formed half English couples to be found in the Soi Bangla, Patong area, in bars carrying names such as The Dogs <deleted>.
