Study Thai For A Few Months

Featured Replies

Hello,

Have checked the forum and believe

1. If I sign up for a one year course a language school can sponsor my Visa.

2. However, my situation is that I'm currently in Bangkok on a tourist Visa (60 days) which I believe I can extend by 30.

3. Have had a few interviews and may be getting a job in Bangkok in spring/summer. In the meantime, was wondering if I can sign up to study Thai for a few months and if there is a Visa option to cover this?

One year is too long/unrealistic with the work commitments I will have.

Any advice appreciated.

You don't have to study for 1 year, it only means you are allowed to study for one year. So if you leave after a month or 5 no problem. Just get a non-B visa then and a work permit.

If you sign up at a langauge school they will provide you with the necesarry documents to go to a Thai embassy or consulate in a neighnouring country to apply for a non-immigrant visa based on educaiton. The school will talk you through it.

I see..thanks for the reply. However, it means that I have to sign up for (and pay for) a one ear course, no?

Can't help you on that last question. The cost for one year study is about 29,000 baht, for 4 hours a week. You can contact some schools, like some of the forum sponsers on top of this page about if you have to pay for one year and what your option are.

Remember, you can always continue your study next to your work. You don't need an educational study to study, you can do that with any kind of visa or even a visa exempt entry.

If a school that offers sponsorship for an Ed visa won't do a shorter class for you then just continue doing the visitor visa thing and find a smaller more quaint language school if you truly want to learn some Thai. You could also maybe find some private lessons that offer Thai language instruction too!

Good luck!
