My gf got bit by a dog a couple days ago and her foot got a few puncture wounds. As she was pedaling quickly to get away it all happened too fast to remember which of the few pursuing dogs it was and then they all ran away. We started the rabies injections treatments at McCormick the next day, but they run about 650 B ea plus 70 B for the nurse to administer it. Given that it's 5 treatments we're looking at 3,500B plus the other charges for antibiotics and tetanus vaccines (another 2000 or so). Anybody know of a place we could do the follow up shots for cheaper than 700 B ? I'm going to call the Loi Kroh Clinic tmw in any case.

And yeah.... I know it's waaay cheaper than in our home countries. But, we live on Thai wages out here and cheaper is better provided care is comparable.

Should be about half that in the gov hospitals, RTD - Nakorn Ping towards Mae Rim for instance. Problem is they're usually really busy.

Sorry to hear/read that. Dog bites are very painfull and can give big infections especially when there is case of puncture wounds.

When I was bitten by a dog I immediately flushed out the wounds with a Saline solution and then applied a local yellow stuff on it called: นำมันโอสกถิพย์ (namman Ohsokthip) This kept the swelling down considerably and there was almost no inflammation.

If your gf has received Rabies vax's before and not too long ago (forgot how many years before), she doesn't need the whole range again. Then one injection is sufficient. Has to do with the memory cells of the immune system.

Can't answer your question of where it is cheaper, though.

About 8 people from the government came into our moobaan the other day. One guy on the back of a what looked like a police truck was shouting into a megaphone. When I inquired into what was going on, I was told that next week every dog in the moobaan must be vaccinated for Rabies and that the government will do it for free. An hour or so later, the whole crew showed up at our gate asking how many dogs we have and taking note of our address. And since our neighbor was not home, they asked how many dogs she has. Seems they must be getting serious.

An official van came round our Moo Ban last week offering a free neutering service last week. My g/f was just pushing me out of the front gate when she realised it was only for dogs. Did we look stupid.....

Point is, my brotha rtd...you must continue with the shots. Go full 5, not the cheepy 3 shot deal. Mo bettah.

I got nipped a few years ago. Had the full contra-rabies treatment...at Ram (!!!!!!) no less.

It was all very painless, efficient...but of course a bit expensive.

About 1500 B for each of 5 treatments.

Yes i would go for the full treatment , my 5 year old son got bitten last year when we were in the village got the treatment started straight away then when we got to chiang mai we went to the ram and he had another 4 visits there ,only 700 baht each though . dont know why the price varies but not surprised.

Hi Khun RTD,

Sorry to hear your Lady was bitten, but thank God it was by a dog, not one of the feral soi farangs so frequently running wild here.

If by "Loi Kroh Clinic" you mean Dr. Tawitchai (spelling ?), I think that would be a logical place to check, and he's my favorite GP of all time. And he's always good about referrals if he can't handle a situation or you need to escalate to a specialist.

You might also consider checking Maharaj Hospital aka Suan Dok on Thanon Suthep which I have a very good experience with for treatment of cancer.

Well, the saga continues quite happily as it turns out the same vaccine is offered by LK Clinic as at McCormick for 420B a hit vs the previous 700B, so she just picked up where she left off. That place is a good deal.

And thanks Neinke for the tip on the anti-infection stuff. Next time that would be the best course of action - hopefully no next time though! In fact she did get a little bit of the drippy swelling on her foot, but the antibiotics are taking care of that. All in all an inconvenient mess that is handled. But boy is she mad at soi dogs, let me tell you. We know it's not their fault, but you can't help but be mad at that which attacks you.
