Drowned Man Found Alive Twenty Years Later, Faked Death to Avoid Marriage

Bennie Harden Wint, now 49, was believed to have drowned nearly twenty years ago right after becoming engaged. That is until he was arrested in North Carolina on the suspicion of giving police a false name and driving with a suspended licenses.

In 1989 while his fiancee was on the beach Bennie went for a swim, but did not return. Searches along the beach did not find any sign of Bennie.

"It's always in the back of your mind, you know, 'Did I miss somebody?' stated Petersohn, who was on duty that day.

Officials suspect he was trying to avoid marriage with his fiancee. It is unknown whether she knows he has been found or not.
