Hi every body

I don't know if anyone is interested but sometime ago I met a English guy who is growing big, juicy meat Tomatoes.

I believe it is done on a hydroponic way. just outside Mahasarakham, I have some of them, and I have to say they are even better then the tomatoes in my home country Holland.

About 3 to 4 Tomatoes in one kilo. Ok I know where to go to his farm , but I believe he is also selling in Pattaya and BKK, maybe there are more people who are interested to sell/buy this tomatoes.

His name is David ( I can't remember his last name) but he write under the name " Irrigator".

When I buy the tomatoes I pay 50 Bath a Kilo, and they stay good for many weeks.

mmmm jammie jammie :o

It is nice to know that there are good tomatoes somewhere, but it would be better to know where they are available.  :D

It's good to know there are some tasty juicy tomatoes in this LOS. I love tomatoes and the the bland tasteless ones available locally really spoil my day.

Now if there was someone growing these hydroponic tomatoes near Krabi I would definitely be interested.

I grew some last year cos I was sick of the tasteless local variety.. Bought a few of the expensive inport 'plum' tomatoes from Villa Market.. Removed the seeds and let them dry on some kitchen towell.. Planted them in pots and waited.. They spouted in about a week.. Then grew like made... I was away at work for a Month and when I came home the plants had taken over my back yard.. I only managed to harvest a few tomatoes (excellent flavour) as I wasn't around to prune the plants.. later they developed a 'leaf rust'

So although they are easy to grow.. You need to prune them and remove 'suckers' often as well as spray to prevent pests...

If I had a proper garden rather than pots I'd be growing them all year round.. Right now I have two fig bushes.. One is laden with figs :o

Thanks for those links, didn't know you could do that with tomato plants. I'm going to have a go at that, it looks uncomplicated enough even for me to take on. :D

I'll start with some seeds from the local toms and see how I get on with those before looking for some juicy toms at the supermarket on our next trip into town.

Cheers.

'SAP' means to me the reference of the German company that provides business software.

'ASAP' mean to me 'As Soon As Possible'

I also think as the other poster stated calling someone a 'sap' is fighting words..... :o

daffy,

just so's you know, those juicy tomatoes from the supermarket are more than likely hybrids.

if so, the plants that grow from them "may not" be like the original.

not sure why, but it's a fact.

just so's you know....

Cheers for that info :o As I said will start off with the local ones first to see if I can actually do it so no need to worry about the juicy supermarket ones just yet, but something to keep in mind.

Many moons ago I took some native seeds for tomatoes commonly grown in the US Southwest to Chiang Rai. One of the locals planted them and got some great fruit. He served them in his gh dining room and got rave reviews from western backpackers.

As 'turnpike' stated, seeds from hybrids may produce something entirely different. Go for native seeds so the fruit seeds can propagate. Also try to match soil and climatic conditions as closely as possible.

Then send me a couple of bushels. :o

In French Sac A Pattates

In American Such A Pain

In German the meaningless "Systemen Anwendungen Programmen"

To stay on topic: a man in Belgium grows 150 different species of tomatoes and a retired friend try tried to grow some in Thailand, unsuccessfully.

I will give it a try though.

I brought a set of flower bulbs and near nothing came out :D
