Hello, I have a 2 month visa, stamped into my passport (from a 3 month issued visa from Laos) and want to pay the 1900 Baht to extend for an extra month. Is this possible in Bangkok, at Immi. Dept. Soi Suan Plu, off South Sathorn Rd. I have been told conflicting stories, that they still give a 1 month extension, and that they only give 7 days extension??? (either still at 1900 B.)

Or do I have to go to a border like Arranyapathet??

Thank you in advance for your help

If your visa is still current and has not been extended then you can do that at Immigration for 30 days/1900 baht.

Yes, please take the copy of the first page of your passport and visa page.

Plus a passport size photo and this form

Or you can get the form at Immigration.

This can't possibly be true. Or I had a whole different situation.

My gf is Brazilian (she did not need a visa when entering and could stay for 90 days, Thai-Brazil bilateral agreement)

We went to the Immigration TODAY (Feb 11th 2009) and tried to extend, as I have heard numerous times it was possible for another 60 or 90 days. But we were denied, he said she was only eligible for the 7 day extension.

Does mileage vary? Or am I way off? Now we are scrambling to go on a visa run.

BTW, does anyone happen to know, if we do the friendship bridge land visa run, will it be different for Brazilians? 'Cos I know they can just leave and enter the Kingdom for another 90 days. But there's that silly rule that the visa extension is only 15 days by land and 30 by air.

Hi hitzatak

To start with - the OP is talking about someone with a VISA

Your GF has a VISA EXEMPT entry.

Secondly it all depends on the Passport you are holding.

Some Passport holders with a VISA - may be eligible for only 7 days extension

not everybody gets 30 days extension - not even the first time.

Thirdly there is a different set of rules for Brazilians

- and my reading of the regulations are that she would get another 90 days.

I would be interested to hear how others interpret the Chart.

Paragraph 2.4 of Police Order 777/2551 say this:

2.4 In the case of tourists: Permission will be granted for a period of not more than 30 days at a time but not exceeding 90 days in total, counting from the entry date.

I take this to mean that if a tourist received permission to stay for 90 days when he arrived with a tourist visa, he can get no extension. If he received permission for 60 days, he can get one extension of 30 days. If he received permission for 30 days, as the nationals of some countries do, he can get two extensions of 30 days each.

BTW, does anyone happen to know, if we do the friendship bridge land visa run, will it be different for Brazilians?

The bilateral agreements are valid at all immigration checkpoints.

He said the GF arrived WITHOUT a Visa

- she was granted a 90 day Visa Exemption.

Ah, yes. Without a visa, there is no rule granting an extension. The 7-day extension given in this situation is a goodwill gesture, presumably based on an internal guideline at Immigration.

Providing the Immigration Officer knows the rules she should get another 90 days.

Does that mean that we can just go over any border and come back with a stamp? Or do a whole process of actually having to go to an actual consulate?

'Cos to me, it sounds like she just needs a stamp from any border (eg cambodia) instead of waiting in crazy lines at some consulate in Laos or something.

She can cross the border and get 90 days on entry. Just make sure the immigration officer gives her the 90 days when he stamps her passport.

This file gives info on the 90 day entry for her. http://www.mfa.go.th/internet/document/ChartVisa.pdf

As the person who originally asked about my 30 day extension, and sorry if I haven't replied to each entry individually, can I say THANK YOU all very much for the answers you have given, I will go to Bangkok with my passport, and photo and fill in the correct form. My initial 2 months expires next Thursday.

Just following up:

First of all, thank you for helping me. It really made our nerves settle easier. Thank you Thaivisa mods and owner and the various gurus!

We did the visa run trip today and my Brazilian gf got her 90 days stamp easily. It was cake. So for future reference: Brazilians can enter Thailand without a visa and stay for 90 days, after that, they can do a visa run over the border (we did cambodia) and get 90 days again. Simple, yet nerve wracking as there weren't many Brazilians to ask about it.

But, it's all smooth now.

Hello there! I am Brazilian, and on my second trip to Thailand I intend to do exactly the same thing that your GF did.

But since your post is almost 2 years old, I'd like to know if it's still possible to do that, or if the system has changed.

Thank you very much.

Just confirming the info above:

I'm Brazilian, and went for a visa run in Cambodia.

I did my visa run one week before my 90-day period expired. Quick and simple, just walked into Cambodia and went back. The officer at Thai immigration just gave me 90 days (starting from the day I did the run, not the fist visa expiration) no questions asked.

I used a visa run company called 5 star visa in Pattaya. Comfortable trip, and the staff is well prepared (they knew all about the rare brazilian 90-day permission).
