The 'new' regulations about the time period for funds deposited into bank accounts when extending a visa (marriage or retirement) are very clear and unambiguous.

But - I cannot find any reference about the validity / qualifying time frame for a proof of income letter.

Does anybody know how long (before lodging an application for an extension) the proof of income letter remains valid for?

I must extend my visa (6th time) in mid-May. Due to the collapse of the pound, I will apply based on proof of income of +65k a month instead of 'deposit' of 800k in the bank.

If I apply for a proof of income letter from the UK Embassy say early April, is the time window between the date of that letter and the date when I apply

for the extension too big or too small to be accepted by :o our friends :D

I reccommend no more than a week before the date that you plan on doing your application.

It can depend upon which immigration office you go to. There was one that said 3 days.

I am hoping that it would be longer as in the same year as your renewal. I dislike going to bangkok very offten. Let me know what you find out Dah Fahrang. I will try to find out also Friday.

Last year I got my proof of income letter at the end of June and didnt apply for my visa extension till early August.

This was accepted by Immigration in Nong Khai but I suggest you check beforehand with the Office you will be applying at.

You can arrange for the Letter by Faxing your request and copies of Proof to the Embassy

Subsequently check by phone that all is in order.

Then show originals and pay Fee when you go to Collect it - on the way to Immigration is how I do it.

That depends on which embassy you are getting it from.

The UK will do it entirely by mail and takes a day if you go in person.

The US you have to go there for it. But it should take less than an hour to do it.

To expand this a bit further, is there a standard blurb to write out on the form?

I imagine it would vary from embassy to embassy, but if members could provide a US and a UK sample, that would cover a lot of ground.

I've not seen a "sample letter" for this financial income statement in the samples section. What all pertinent information should be included and words used when given this clean slate to fill out?

I obtained an Income letter from The British Consolate at Jomtiem,Pattaya and its an individual pro-forma letter, so its not the case of filling in the gaps on a sample letter. With prior approval from Kap Cheung Immigration they confirmed my letter obtained mid Jan will be acceptable in mid Feb(I hope) & 30 days prior to expiry of current extension.

I applied to The British Embassy in Bangkok by post in January and told them I was renewing my O-A Retirement Visa in February. When I eventually received the letter after about four days it was dated January 30th.

I went to immigration today February 12th in Bangkok and got my visa no problem. I hope this is some help to you.

The American way..

Fill in blank form ( form requires name, address, and income data, no other forms, paperwork required )

Take filled in form to counter ( after you have paid, last year 1,000 baht )

Offical looks at it, tells you to raise your right hand to swear the information is true, subject to prosecution for lying on a offical document.

Official places the offical embassy or consulate stamp on his/her signature.

Good to go.

Time depends on which embassy/consulate you are at. Bangkok took me 40 minutes. Chiang Mai took me around 20 minutes.

Off you go.....done.

I obtained my US "letter" last year at one of the ACS outreach visits to Pattaya in March . I applied for and received my annual retirement extension in late August as my expiry date is 9 September. Prior to going for my extension I went to my local Immigration office and showed them the letter and asked if this letter dated in March would be good and the supervisor said yes. When I came back a month later it was indeed accepted.

If it's really important for you to see this form letter I suggest you go to the ACS offices in Bangkok or ChiangMai and get one and fill it in and pay the fee. Or if you see a scheduled visit as I did in Pattaya they hand them out so they can be prepared while you wait. But as gpdjohn said the info is simple and clear and no proof is required. Only you raising your hand and swearing and signing in front of the Consulate officer.

Got my proof of income letter from US ACS today, I asked how long is good for and was told up to a year but it was realy up to Thai Immigration what is acceptable. So I guess I will find out from Kanchanaburi Immigration.

Make sure you get the RIGHT form letter from the US Embassy. I got mine in December and in January Thai Immigration changed the requirements. As a result they refused to accept my Affidavit, even though the information was 100% the same as the new form. The new form has less to fill out manually. We even asked to speak to a Supervisor and she refused to accept it as well. I have more than enough money in the bank to cover the 400K, but since it had only been in an account in MY name for 6 weeks they wouldn't accept that either so now we have to go back again this week once the 60 days has passed.

Of course none of the information concerning the forms is listed on the Immigration website and the Immigration Officials are completely aware of the discrepancy, however, they don't really care. Needless to say, my wife was not happy with this and also has to go back with me again this week ;-)

Good luck!

I am not sure on Income letters,

but have experienced with other documents that

Thai's consider a document older than one month to be "stale".
