January 6, 200521 yr My WP expires tomorrow. I got my visa extended for another month, under consideration for another year supporting my Thai wife. If I go to Labour, they can only extend my WP up until my visa expires, 29 Jan. Waste of 850Baht. After that they can't extend after the end of Feb. due to my leaving my work. My question is should I give back the WP. I am still going to be working for 7 weeks. Once before I kept onto my WP in a different province and had to pay a fine of 1500B when I applied for a new one. If I don't apply for a new WP, I guess it is OK. I guess I can just hand it in and walk away. My visa is not related to my WP, is it? I mean if I give back my WP, can they stop my visa? Surely not. Would appreciate someones knowledge of this, especially as looking from it from "outside" can give a clearer picture. Lopburi, any ideas? Cheers Neeranam
January 6, 200521 yr If your entry permit extension is based on "support of a Thai spouse" (and NOT based on "qualifying employment with a qualifying employer"), then turning in your work permit will have no immediate effect on your extended entry permit. But - make sure of your entry permit status - what sort of visa was it originally based upon (Class O, or Class ? If it was originally based on a Class B, then you were probably (but not necessarily) extended on the basis of the job, not support of a spouse. In every case of annual extended entry permit renewal, there will always be a requirement for matching short-term work permits. That's just how the Thai system is set up - this happens to everyone, every time. Good luck! January 6, 200521 yr Author Thanks for that Steve. It was originally based on a Non-imm B, but not for working(I had no WP).. I thought that they had to change it to an "O" for the 1st year "marriage" visa, but maybe not. My first year on the spouse visa, I qualified financially - money in my bank from overseas(over 200,000) plus I had proof of approx 50,000 per month for 2 years coming from the UK in my bankbook. I was not working, and they never even asked what I did. Now I don't have the money from the UK - buggre all, unfortunately. Edited January 6, 200521 yr by Neeranam
