someone on this forum is selling a used bike 1997 and has the green book, tax, and insurance.

It's not a real expensive bike . . .

I'm assuming i would only need/get the green book.

Or can you transfer the insurance? How.

What does he mean by the tax - do I need that?

he is in BKK am I am in phuket and I plan to go up there.

Should I go with him to transfer the ownership to me, while in BKK?

Is there an option for him to sign something, and I 'register' it later here in phuket?

I have no idea how this is done in LOS, or what is important to watch out for.

I bought a new bike here, and everything is done at the dealer, so that doesn't help.

maybe we could pin this topic after the question is answered?

Not sure about insurance unless it's only third party instead of comprehensive.

Previously I bought car and bike in bangkok while residing in Phuket and all transfer paperwork was done in capital. However, later on you might be required to change to Phuket in order to renew road tax etc.

According to the dealer I bought my bike off you can't sell directly to a farang unless you are a thai.

Apparently this is to prevent unofficial farang dealerships springing up.

I asked him how the heck I wanted to sell my bike onwards if another farang wanted it.

His answer was simple, either use a thai wifes name OR sell via a dealership.

It sucks if that's true cause the dealer will of course want his cut.

Be warned Phuket are being hellish about big bike transfers..

Inventing all manner of issues, making problems that no other province is doing to my knowledge and asking for back taxes dating back to mid 90s...

Be VERY wary !! I would register in your name in bkk as the opposite (changing changwat and moving it to phuket and registering here) puts you at risk as I presume you would have to pay before you could take the bike.

Thanks. I wasn't a BIG bike. It was an nsr 150 SP. Now, he sold it. But it's still a good question I think.
