Teaching In Chiang Mai

Featured Replies

Been in Chiang Mai a couple of days and was wondering if anyone can give some advice on where to look for teaching work in Chiang Mai. I currently teach in Bkk but dont have a degree, can anyone point me in teh right direction?? Please feel free to pm me :-)

Hi james,

I think you already started a thread for this in the Chiang Mai forum, but let's see which sub-forum gives you the better answers for the next day or so.

A little bird told me that SEE (one of our sponsors) has offices in and around Chiang Mai; they may be able to help you both with your qualification and your unemployment challenges.

ah wicked cheers, was driving around today and noticed a few schools. Is it worth contacting them directly??

Can't hurt, but if you do it that way go prepared- dress nicely and have a resume- just like for any potential impromptu interview. Don't expect them to have an English speaker available, or to know what they're doing in general! If you don't meet with someone high enough up in the food chain, they may be unwilling (read: unable) to make any decisions or promises, so the most likely good result is they take your number and call you another day- but if the Big Noodle is at home, you need to be ready to do business.

please pardon my ignorance

As I said, if the Big Boss is in the office, then you have the interview. You may not be aware that "Big Noodle" is a Thai idiom for important persons (this is a Thai-related board, FYI). If you don't understand how to function at job interviews, you need to take that up on some other forum.
