If your passport has been delayed in the British Embassy in Bkk over the due date of your visa is there there any way to avoid paying an overstay? The embassy have offered a letter to give the reasons for being late but they say the immigration folk aren't interested. Anyone been through this before?

Sue you embassy ....! No, really, you should always allow for some delay to happen. And I think your embassy is right ... they don't care and will fine you.

There is probably nothing you can do to avoid paying the overstay now.

If you were that close you could of gotten a 7 day extension at immigration.

Unless you are prepared to leave within a day or so after you get your passport back you might want to get the extension as soon as you get your passport back and pay the overstay then.

Ok, can this be done at the local immigration in Samui or is it border bounce time? My friend had a 60 day tourist vias and has had the 30 day extension already which he has gone over on now, but doesn't want to go home yet

Cheers guys

It depends on how much longer he plans to stay in Thailand.
