Hey everybody! I'm fairly new, long time reader and more recent poster. I am looking for advice from people with knowledge or experience about this subject. I will headed back to Thailand for good, more specifically Bkk. I would like to bring a puppy back with me or possibly 2 puppies(Male+Female). I was wondering how much could this potentially cost? Does a dog in Bkk require pet insurance? Many soi dogs cause me to think not. Besides that, are their any quarantine laws for bringing back domesticated animals?? I will be coming from America.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated... :o

Have you checked the Thai Embassy web site and contacted Thai Airways? Between the two, you should be able to get definitive answers.

My advice would be to ask a Mod to move this thread to the Pets forum, where you will find all the information you need

Plants, Pets & Vets in Thailand

Discussions about our beloved Pets and how to make them happy and healthy. Plants, farming, gardening, animals.

My view is that there are more than enough dogs in Thailand now. Get one when you come here preferably from one of the agencies that save dogs.

If you allready have the dog of course that is a different story.

Very good advice, thanks! I will check the Thai Embassy web page now, as far as Thai airways I believe I will be flying via Korea air and their guidelines are pretty vague like most of the airlines guidelines. I do not want to bring the puppies to the airport and not be able to get them on! That would be a total bust.. The reason I have not boughten a dog in/from Thailand is because the type of dog(Pitbull, Dogos, Kangal) I wish to posses are very difficult if not impossible to find. Also I would like to ask the mod to move this topic to pets and animals the only problem is I am completely clueless on how to attempt to...thanks again for the replies. :o

Pittbuls and Dogo's are available in Thailand. One TV memebr just bought a dogo pup. Pitts are becoming fashion dog. Not the safest trend, me thinks.

When you go to the pinned subject: importing pet into Thailand you will find much valuable info.

The Kangal Dog is a Mastiff type and the Turkish national breed. Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kangal_Dog

So far I know Pittbulls are not allowed to be imported in Thailand. That doesn't mean that they AREN'T imported. Not sure if the Dogo is on the blacklist, though. The Kangal is most probably not on that list as it quite an unknown breed. I doubt if there is any in Thailand.

I found a page about dogos breeders in Thailand and I know they have pit(bull)s. I saw a guy walking a HUGE one around like din daeng i think. I'm thinking about just buying one when I get back to Thailand since there are dogos breeders there and all that paper work is sounding very...tidious :o . If anyone has any numbers or websites about any of the forementioned dogs in Thailand more info would be appreciated, aswell as (Dog)training schools. I dont think I will find any kangals either..

just out of curiosity, if u are planning ot be going back and forth from thailand, these breeds arent exactly shitzus, that u can shuffle thru customs at the airport. these breeds are often on black lists so that u may be permitted to have one in thailand but bringing back to the states when u want/have to go back will be an other story. why are u interested in these breeds. btw, my personal experience with some turkish and yugolsavian breeds (shar plinaz and akbash) are that they are horrible pets, good sheep guards but wouldnt put one near a family in any way shape or form. wonder aabout this kangal since turkish, uzbakistan and in general east european and asian working dogs have 'hard' reputations.

just that we see an awful lot of posters that have dogs and then have to go 'back' home and are desparate to find new homes for their dogs. homing a golden retriever is one thing, homing a kangal may be an other. not to mention thai attitudes to dogs, training and behavior. depending on where and how u will be living.

nienke is a trainer btw. why dont u pm her since she answered u here, for more info.

and pm ms.figure as she has dogos. just do a search for her avatar, and then go in to her page and send a personal message.

I am not sure for what purpose you want a dog but kangals are not something you keep around the home. I also think that the hot climate is not suited for this breed.
