Thai Visa can be a bit of a grumble fest and it's well known that expats everywhere let off steam when they get together and complain about the things they find frustrating in their adoptive country.

I often wonder if Thai wives whisked back to the West do the same thing. Do they get together in each others' homes in England for example and moan about us and our horrible culture?

If so, what specifically are the things they find difficult or annoying about England or wherever they are.

Apart from the obvious problems such as exile from Mama and som tam, it must be difficult for them at times and I'd love to know what in particular irritates them most.

Crafty plug for your Thai Girl books!

I don't know about Thai expats but in the US there are forums for Indian expats and I would imagine they grumble. Its human nature, innit?

Dunno, I never took a Thai girl back to the UK, I wouldn't have the heart to do it to her.

I was married in UK to a French woman, she had other French friends who would meet up for a Soiree.

I never noted any excessive complaining, if there was any it was minor, absolutely not on the same scale as many Farangs complain about their chosen lives in Thailand, nowhere near it.

I think if she had that attitude she would have never stayed in England, of course all people are different, many posters here seem to dislike so much about Thailand yet they soldier on regardless.

I kinda respect that in a way cos I know I couldn't or wouldn't do it.

Many I feel are pleased with the UK if they find employment and make their way.....they appreciate the opportunity.....very quickly locate new Thai friends

Quite a few do not appear to overly happy with the respective partners they have ended up with!!!.... :o

I guess that could be said of a lot of women! :D

Thai female expats absolutely get together and complain about their new country of residence...they make their complaints known to their husbands to. :o

However, their conversations do not evolve into crude denigrating rants like TV. This is partly because of their own humility and partly because the conversation is never hijacked by a troll.

the local Thai temple is usually the place where the expat Thais get together when living in farangland.

mostly its gossiping but im sure there is a fair share of moaning about farang culture as well.

agree with the OP, Thai Visa can be a grumble fest on some threads

by the way, there are all sorts of thais you see at the Thai temple in farang land.

the young brides married to an old , presumably wealthy foreigner, some (many) long in the tooth,

some on business, couples that come and open up resturants for example,

thai students

illegal workers often exploited by the employers , on the run from the immigration

and so on

Thais are also known for their tolerance.

and

better cope with living in misery :D

Very true Teacup, very true.

I'm astonished at the tolerance many Thai women show when married to farangs who do nothing but complain, that must be an ordeal worthy of a medal. :o

All the Thais I know in the uk like to have a good moan sometimes, I think it's about what financial status they have with regards to husbands, partners, etc, some seem to do very well with 2 visits a year back home, others just plod along and some I know are on benefits and just wish they were back in Thailand.

Regards.

I can think of many things they'd moan about, the weather for one, rude and ugly chavs, the english food, drunk and violent youths(maybe more so than inm their home country).

but(if working) i bet they like the money.

Probably many disgruntled as how their farang saviour now treats them when back on home turf too.

A brutally honest self-evaluation...well done! Go home and tell your wife as I'm sure she will love the expressed appreciation. :D

I suppose money strengthens their tolerance level. The question is, what level of wealth would compensate for this annoying grumbling characteristic in the farang partner.

I think its funny when a Thai lady thinks the west is all glitz and glamour, and when they get here they find it just as much a shit hole than where they came from. Serves them right for being so naive.

I don't know about back in the West but my missus tells me that the Thai women here grumble and moan about their Farang husbands, so I guess it wouldn't be any different if they were elsewhere.

My wife is an expat living in Singapore and she only complains about not having many friends around to talk to. A year ago there was another Thai lady living in the apartment block and she was happy enough. Apart from that we are not far from Thailand and still in SEA so there is nothing that she cannot buy here that she can get in Thailand.

When she goes to England it is really just the weather if it is cold that she complains about.

I must be a lucky farang! My Thai wife has been with me in UK since May 07, she likes the weather(lol) got a job within a couple of weeks where she has made alot of new friends(but none Thai) and has never(touch wood) complained about anything (yet!) Any Thai she has spoken too ie in restaurants or shops just complain about everything in the UK! So she cant understand why they are still here???? She doesnt want any Thai friends, this is part of the reason she left Thailand, she is tired of all the gossip, chit chat and contanstant bickering that they all seem to do, wether in TL or UK!! Hey guys you should look at wedding square a site where all the Thai women get together and REALLY moan about everything!!! Its all in Thai language(but DONT tell your wives about it!) This site is dangerous has they all get together and discuss whats best to handle a tricky situation in farangland often with severe consequences as most havent a clue about advice as they just want to creat gossip and stir things up!! I think the site must be run by Thai women as the advice is the direct oppisite of advice given on this site..IE Guy asks for advice on sin sod here..told DUMP HER, you dont have to give it and there are plenty Thai women out there who doesnt ask for it!! same question asked on wedding square... 'My Farang BF doesnt want to pay sin sod'..would get answered...DUMP him, if he doesnt respect Thai culture get shut, plenty more farang out there that will pay it!! LOL

The answer is no they don't, at least not in my experience.

The complaining is (primarily) not related to the environment people are living in, or about being an expat. The complaining is mainly all about the person and their culture.

We farang are brought up to analyse, to compete, to question the way things are, and to want to change things. This sows the seeds for what you see in Thaivisa (and yes, sure having a lot of time on one's hands is a secondary factor too). Farang complain in farangland too (I should know - I worked in local government for many years!). It's just a lot more concentrated here.

Thais are not brought up like this at all, hence put them in a different environment and they are very much like they are here.

What you do see with many Thai ladies in farangland which is unpleasant (and which others have already noted) is a fair degree of gossip, bitchiness and one-upmanship. My wife has commented on this and found it quite a turn-off in her socialising with Thais over there. Again, this probably happens in Thailand too but is more in your face there (especially in small communities)

I took my ex to the UK and it turnt out to be a nightmare - for both her and myself. We moved back to Thailand.

For the majority of Thai women that I met they had all adapted well to living in the UK. There was an element of compition between the ladies - whose Farang has the biggest house etc. The same way that you see the same compitition between Thai ladies living with thier farang husbands in Thailand.

One thing that did stand out was that every single Thai that I met was waiting for the day when they had made enough money to go back and live in Thailand.

The Indians and Chinese make England their home. The Thais seem to use it as a stepping stone to obtain wealth.

Cynical - Maybe? - But you don't see too many third or fourth generation thai's living in the UK.

I took a lady back to Holland and she complained a lot, just like others say once they get together it get worse. Its about money, food ect i would NEVER ever take my Thai wife back to Holland its not good for them they seem to completely change. I have seen it happen with wifes of friends too. My wife changed so much she started working in a massage house and cheated with tons of guys. That was the end of it.. im not bitter about it at all i still have contact with her daughters but i would never put my current thai wife through this. Life is a lot different and many cant bare it.

That was why when my current wife visited me in Holland for 3 moths we decided that we should live in Thailand. She liked Holland but it was hard for her too.. i could not bear to see her away from Thailand and i cope a lot better here then she could in Holland i actually love it here.

But i still grumble but did that in Holland too. I reserve the right to complain about things that i dont like.

Last Saturday my house in Leicester 2 pm - 10 Thai women loads of sum tam - cocktails - cards and a general moanfest - I went to the pub and came back at midnight. :o

We used to host a monthly get-together, for food & gossip & cards, and more than a few moans. It may have helped the new-arrivals to settle-in, but some of the girls used to 'stir' them up, which can't have helped their chances of making the cultural-transition successfully. :o

I used to be too busy at work to attend, except to say 'Hi' in passing.

Now we're in the LOS, a similar event occurs for farangs, monthly or thereabouts. Same same not different ! :D

My Thai wife tells me her Thai friends she's made over the last 2 years only ever talk about there husbands and what they can provide for them. They also call other Thai friends of there's that are not sat with them on a mat on the kitchen floor eating somtam at our house or any of her so called friends houses. My wife has told me in the past that she wished she had never meet some of them and that she was better off not knowing any.
