:o After traveling over six hours and spending 4000 baht, I was informed that Bangkok immigration that they will no longer processes visas for non-Bangkok residence. Living in Phitsanulok, I was told I would have to go to Mae Sot.

So after traveling back home I called Mae Sot! They advise that the information I was given in Bangkok was not correct. Residents from Phitsanulok will have to go to Nan immigration for renewal etc. They have done an exceptional job in making it as difficult as possible and as expensive as possible to get a visa renewed. Immigration has maintained there reputation with the new Immigration Order No. 38/2552.

Also be informed that the Airport will not longer be processing re-entry permits. Guess they think they are so efficient at Sathorn, that they do not need the processing capacity at the airport as it would be to convenient for travelers.

For reference, I am 62 and have a non-immigrant Thai wife visa and currently trying to get the third renewal.

makes you wonder how Thai immigration comes up with these rules. i suspect they have a dart board with several notes attached, each one detailing an ingenious way to make life harder for farang expats. then a highly trained, blindfolded money throws a dart and voilà, a new immigration police order.

The changes you report have already been posted to this forum. Sorry that you did not see them prior to traveling to Bangkok. As far as the confusion within immigration, well that's normal. TIT! Thanks for the post anyway. Good luck with the renewal.

Yes. Old news, sorry. You have to go to Nan. Here is the list of designated Immigration Offices.

You can still obtain a re-entry permit at Bangkok. I did it yesterday & I live in Phetchabun so my designated office is also Nan. Nan is much further from Phetchabun than it is from Phitsanulok but you only have to go once a year to do your renewal so it`s not that bad.

Out of interest- Yesterday at Bangkok Immigration I noticed that I seemed the only one applying at the re-entry counter (7) that had all the required paperwork,:- signed copies of passport pages, TM6, etc & when I handed them in with my application form they pushed them back to me & only kept the form with photo, passport & fee. They stopped taking applications at 4.30pm but cleared everyone who had applied before. I received mine at 5pm. Not too painful & better than a 2 day trek to Nan.

I thought you could just make up an address in Bangkok and apply there no matter where you live in Thailand. I've been here 12 years and never received anything in the mail from them.

You would if you did your 90 day report by mail.
