Junta Burns Myanmar Village After Fierce Clash in Bago Region
MSRF Myanmar junta troops torched a village in western Bago Region on Thursday following intense fighting with resistance forces, as violence escalates across Minhla Township. According to local sources, the military set fire to dozens of homes in Taungpyatywarma village after dawn clashes with People’s Defense Forces (PDF) left casualties on both sides. The attack marked the latest in a series of confrontations that have gripped the area since mid-June. Fighting began around 4am on 20 June when PDF fighters launched an assault, reportedly underestimating junta troop numbers. “We thought they were weak, but they had over 400 soldiers. Our fighters were surrounded,” said a resistance source. Five PDF fighters were captured, two were confirmed dead, and reports suggest 13 junta troops were also killed, though figures remain unverified. By early afternoon, junta soldiers began torching homes in apparent retaliation. “The fire spread quickly — we hoped the rain would help, but no one could stop it,” said a local resident. The full extent of damage is still being assessed. The attack follows several coordinated operations by resistance groups in the region. On 16 June, revolutionary forces assaulted a junta checkpoint at Sitkwin Tasone, reportedly killing 20 junta soldiers, including senior officers. Days later, landmines targeted junta convoys near Gindeikkone village. As fighting intensifies, the Mon State Federal Council (MSFC) has pledged to expand anti-regime operations and resist the junta’s planned election. At a weekend conference, the MSFC announced plans for a Mon State charter, a boycott of military-run polls, and a support programme for displaced civilians. Though armed resistance in Mon State is less widespread than in other areas, MSFC’s affiliated forces — including the Mon Liberation Army and Mon State Defence Force — have begun uniting under a single command. Talks continue with the New Mon State Party’s anti-junta faction, despite the party’s official adherence to the 2015 ceasefire. The conference drew over 200 delegates from allied pro-democracy and ethnic organisations, as momentum builds toward establishing an interim Mon government.
