Hi, Was hoping for some help with this application for a tourist visa for tgf to visit spain for approx 6 weeks. I can appreciate that all situations are different but a rough guideline would be great..

Is there any minimum time limit for the date of application and the date of visit i.e is it fair to assume that I could apply for the visa at the offices in Bangkok next week, with the expected date of travel 2- 3 weeks later? or would it be safer to go for 4 weeks?

With regards to the provissional plane ticket, seems most of the travel agents / thai airways require payment in full? Could anyone point me towards someone whom may assist with this.

If my tgf trip is planned for a duration of approx 6 weeks and I already have accomodation arranged, as my family own a villa there, would around 70,000 baht be enough in her own bank account?

Thanks in advance and any other notes would be appreciated....

Hi mate,

ive been through the spainsh visa process 3 times in the last few years and its pretty easy to be honest, i usually apply 4-6 weeks before just incase there is any cockups, which last time there was but down to a passport renewal nothing to do with the visa itself. I am an english man but my parents live in Spain so this helps in the process as there is a reason for a visit, regarding the plane tickets, where are you? I use a travel agent in Chiang Mai who lets you do a provisional booking and then pay after visa is approved, this is the only area I know so unless your in CM im sorry you will have to shop around on that. The Spanish rules on money in the bank (which changes without notice) in December it was 35euro's a day for every day in spain. I have only ever applied for a 1 month visa so im not sure about 6 weeks, this you have to ask at the embassy, saying that the first time we applied for 1 month, they gave us 3 months anyway, so shouldn't see that as a problem.

The other things I handed in for the visa are listed below:

2 x copy of the application forms with passport photo.

2 x copy of the title deeds to my parents house in spain

2 x copy of an official invitation from the head of police or mayor of my parents town

2 x copy of a letter from my parents inviting my Gf

2 X copy of a letter from me saying i would take care (pay) for her while in spain.

2 x copy of her official bank statement not more than 7 days old (100 bhat from kasikorn bank)

2 x copy of her bank book ( updated less than 2 days ago)

2 x copy of my official bank statement not more than 7 days old ( 200 bhat from ayudyah bank)

2 x copy of her passport

2 x copy of my passport

2 x copy of my parents passports

1 x fee (3002 bhat)

as many utility bills as possible for the last 3 month from my parents address

a medical certificate for her health from local hospital ( 75 bhat)

medical/travel insurance for more than 30,000 euro ( 2100 bhat from kasikorn bank)

and last but not least a provisional return flight booking to/from Spain.

We also took as many photos, emails, birthday cards etc from our 5 years together, these we never needed but better to be safe than sorry.

What we also did was put 50k THB in a fixed deposit account under her name, make sure the withdrawal date is after you have left for Spain, this is a pretty easy way to get a reason to come back, as that is what they look for, to make sure she will come back.

Becareful of the fat Thai Girl in the embassy she's an horrible Tw#t , she is totally unhelpful and Im sure she wants every visa application to fail.

Good luck with it anyway and please PM me if you need any more advice.

regards

Thaimiller.

P.S she will love Spain, But she will never get her head around Siesta time...lol

That is an excellent tip for anyone struggling to find a good reason to return that will satisfy the embassy. Obviously better if the Thai bank used doesn't have an overseas branch etc. Good tip indeed :o

thanks for the info, I thought she had to have money in her bank so that she could support herself if we ' fell out' whilst on hoilday, if its in a fixed account, how would that work?

Hi

She does need money in her bank also, but doing a fixed account as well gives another reason for return, But basically your saying that you will take care of her, so reason to come back is more important in the eyes of the embassy. But like i said she still will need money in her account (35 euros per day in dec). You can hand in to the embassy copies of both bank books also (her fixed account and regular bank book) and they will be added together for a total sum of monies. You also need to get an official letter from her bank saying how much she has in her accounts, so try to get the fixed account at the same bank, again so you can get both accounts added together. I set the fixed account up so it ended 3 days after she had left for spain, this way again she has money in the bank should the "fall out" happen. But the shortest term is 3 months, so unless your going in over 2.5 months time yours will end well after you have departed, but seriously think about doing it, if nothing else but for a reason to return.

Kind regards
