Waterpump The 100th - Need Help On Selecting The Right Pump

Hello Everybody,

I am struggeling to find the right Waterpump ( WP ) for our house. We have a 2 story 5 BR house, with european style bathtube, 5 watersinks, 2 showers. Our 1100 Liter water tank has been put under Ground ( if this matters ).

We currently use a WP from Fujijaka Model GFS-305 ( 300 Watt ). I was told by HomePro this would be the best ! However - once agains listened to these I**** as the Pump is a piece of shit. Not to mention the price and wasted $$$. OK - lesseon learned. The pressure is not that exciting. Shower doesnt make fun

I am now leaning towards Mitsubishi Waterpumps.

Here comes the difficult part. What are the differences between the Mitsubishi WP / EP and IP models ? What is the best for our use? If I look on the the symbols only the IP model is also good for bathtubs. Is anyone using the Mitsubishi Waterpump IP-500 ?

What pumps are you using ? We would like to get a nice constant pressure on all sinks...and beeing able to use our showers like ina western country.

When I went to buy a water pump, I looked at all the labels and looked for one that said made in Japan. I found one and the brand name is ITC. Five years later it is still running fine. It gets fairly heavy use with a washing machine. My house is a single story and if I had had a two story, I would have bought the bigger ITC pump. It can pump more water than my 5,500 watt shower heater can heat. I'm not sure how many watts the pump is but the model number is HTC 125 H.

Strongly advise you to not buy an air cooled well type pump (like most Thai use) as you will not have decent pressure and with your house size/usage it will be very apparent. I have used water cooled Grundfos MQ 3-45 for last few years (after using the largest Mitsubishi models for 20 years). You do need to be sure of your pipes as this provides about 65 PSI - but makes a world of difference in the shower or to fill washer. The price is about double a normal pump but for us worth it. They also have local service center in Thailand.

Here I might face the Problem. The house was built without us and I am more then sure they have used the 'regular' low cost blue "Thai Pipe".

The blue Thai pipe is fine - it is there connections that might be a concern as they often cut short and just hope the glue bonds rather than making a tight fit on corners. I have a 35 year old house and changed all pipes to external (normal blue but painted where visable) about a decade ago so easy to troubleshoot. But have not had issues other than making tap connections tighter.

I have a lucky star from the well to the tank and a Mitsubishi 280W into the house, it provides very good pressure from my normal shower and rain shower.

It is the square Mitsu pump, I went by the chart in store that tells you what you need depending on how many faucet / showers you use.

Texas Ranger, as your pump is the square one I think you have an EP or IP model ? Which is the exact model # and how many sinks, showers do you have ? Single or Two Story house ?

Sorry I can't tell you the exact model number as I am down in Bangkok at the moment not at home. I have 5 faucets and 2 showers in a single story house. The pump is ground level and has about 20m of pipework before it enters the house.

I second lopburi3. Grundfos MQ3-45. I do believe you can adjust the discharge pressure.

There is a seller at Seacon Square. A little pricey but problem solved.

Pressure in the plastic lines / connections could be a problem if the pump is allowed to develop full pressure- see an earlier post I did on the Grundfos MQ3 45. You should limit the discharge pressure to ensure no problem - there is no need to develop such high pressure.

I've had the Grundfos 3-45 operating in my new house for only 2 months. Great pressure even using 3 taps. I think good choice

Could you please explain what is a water cooled pump? That's a new one for me for an above ground pump.

The specifications for the Grundfos MQ3-45 are attached below for anyone who is interested. As a 1000W pump it is justifiably more expensive than Korean and Japanese models.

Some posters here are suggesting the Grundfos pump type MQ3-45, which is indeed a very fine pump. However, this pump is designed for irrigation of agricultural fields and may not the best choice for a house.

A better pump selection would be to use one of the the Grundfos CH-series. These pumps can also easily be fitted with a pressure tank (booster) and a pressure relay.

Another thing worth mentioning is that Thai houses are often fitted with too thin water pipes, which means that the required flow rate cannot be met. In those cases it would not help to increase the pressure as the flow rate would be the limiting factor. Thus, the pip diameter should preferably be no less than 3/4" or greater. For a two story house with two bath tubes I would definitely not use pipes with less than an inch diameter.

Also, the Thai blue water pipes comes in three qualities suitable for 4 bar, 8 bar and 13.5 bar pressure respectively.

I also would like to recommend grundfos. The CH models are overkill for households more for industrial apps using multi-stage impellers. Think the MQ line would work for your needs it’s an all in one unit so nothing to add. Since your house is built and this is a replacement pump you will have to live with the piping sizes existing. If these were fine before they will be now.

The MQ3 45 is a domestic household pump per their web site.

I have a hitachi, no problem with the pump, I got problem with the bowl, change it to stainless steel.

In short if you want good water pump then buy one from a company that specialises in making pumps . . .

I know people who had Hitachi, Mitsubishi and others because they didn't want to pay the Grundfos price - however my Grundfos is still working perfectly where as their poor excuses for pumps have either packed up completely or are on the verge of it providing sod all pressure.

An example of how good the Grundfos is - in my upstairs bathroom I have a large head rain type shower which if I open the tap full on it's quite painful on the skin . . . oh and if someone flushes the toilet or turns on a tap whilst I am in that shower . . . absolutely nothing changes! I love that shower!

A store that is a distributor for Grundfos should be able to order one and get it in a week. You may have to pay at least 50 percent or more for a deposit. Best ask at the places you see the Grundfos products. For sure GH can order one.

Yes Home Pro can supply the Grundfos pumps but the problem with Home Pro is that they are not professional enough for my liking when it comes to installation and setting-to-work. It is better in my humbled opinion to buy at a dedicated pump store.

If you do not mind taking a drive down to Khon Kaen I can recommend a very good company that specialises in water treatment and swimming pools. They know their stuff. The company is called iWater and is located on the left side of the super highway heading towards KK about 1 km after the KK by-pass intersection.

The owner's name is Chalermchai Vongnarkpetch and their telephone number is 043-394 252. Khun Chalermchai has been to Denmark several times and knows the Grundfos pumps very well.

iWater also has a good selection of various filter systems.

I just received a quote from Siam East (who claim to be the Grundfos distributor) for the MQ3-45. Baht 17,700 delivered to Trat. Anyone know of a better price from a store in Chantaburi, Rayong or Chonburi? If so, where and how much? Thanks
