.avi Files To Dvd Disc

Featured Replies

I have about 50 movie files on my harddrive in .AVI format. They are 700Kb in size and I am happy with the quality of playback. Normally I burn them to a CDr if I want to share but this allows only one movie per disc. Is there a way to burn .AVI files to a DVD disc(4.7 MB) without converting them? If I have to convert can I keep them small(700Kb) so I can load several onto one DVD disc?

Thanks

P

Use Nero or whatever you prefer and burn the files as DATA to a DVD. Can't see any reason for converting them first.

In my experience I get far more errors burning multiple files with Roxio, Nero etc. Better to convert all the files (make sure they will fit on one disk) to a single disk image (iso) and use ImgBurn, which is the best burning software by a mile anyway. Imgburn will perform the conversion quickly and easily - just choose build mode...

Ok. This entirely depends on how you want to use the avi files, which you haven't specified.

Keep as AVI format:

There are some dvd players with DIVX/XVID playback support. Can be picked up for about 1,200BHT.

I use princom dvd-r, x16, about 300BHT, I always burn at 8x.

Use nero, select dvd-rom (iso) under the misc tab in the burn compilation, select the tickbox for "search and replace" four cc codes.

Convert AVI to dvd compatible format.

Use a product like ConvertXtoDVD by vso software link: http://www.vso-software.fr/ , this is pretty good and can even burn the created dvd for you

Obviously with the first option you can fit approx 6 films per disk.

If you are getting a lot of problems with writing disks it could be

a bad batch of disks OR

dvd drive is starting to fail.

Thanks for the tips. I want to play the videos on a DVD player. They work fine if I burn a CDR and use it or if I transfer the files as an .AVI file to a thumb drive and plug it into the USB port on my DVD player. I can load multiple .AVI files onto a 4GB thumb drive. I just want to load multiple .AVI files onto a 4.7 GB DVD disc and play it on my DVD player.

^You'll be fine then, since your player obviously supports DivX/XviD. Again I strongly recommend ImgBurn. Can't even remember the last time I got an error using ImgBurn. I've wasted too many disks with other software (particularly if you're trying to almost fill the disk), and yes, I use high-quality media: TY, Verbatim or Sony. No offence to the above poster, but forget Princo disks. They're garbage.
