I have a 2 entry 6 month tourist visa.

I will be going to the immigration office on Thursday to apply for my first 30 day extension.

I want to go to Cambodia for Songkran.

I'm going to go to Cambodia by train/ bus. I know that the immigration office at the land border will be shut over Songkran.

So if I fly back, will I be able to get a 2 month extension stamp when I come back through the airport?

I've read some posts that seem to say there is no immigration office at the airport anymore but I could get a form or permit or something at the immigration office before I go?

My partner needs to sort out work permit issues about leaving the country by the end of today so I need an answer before I go to the immigration office myself on Thursday.

Thanks for any help.

If you do nothing, your 30 day extension will end when you leave the country. You will activate the second 60 day stay of your Tourist Visa when you return.

If you get a re-entry permit (1000 Baht for a single) your extension will not end when you leave. Upon your return you will be stamped to the same date as your existing (extended) permit to stay.

Depends if the 2 weeks or so of your permit to stay is worth 1000Baht (plus a photo) to you :o

EDIT. Makes no difference if you fly or use the bus. Get the re-entry permit at immigration when you get your extension. Put the permit number in the 'visa number' box on your arrival card upon return.

ok.

so say I'm not too worried about losing the end of my 30 day extension, when I come back through immigration would I automatically get my 2 month extension?

I've only ever gone over the border before with a visa run company so have no idea how it actually works!

Would I automatically get the 2 month extension whether I come back by land or plane and does it matter if immigration at the land border is closed because of songkran?

Borders are not closed for songkran, only the offices are.

Yes you would automatically get your second entry for 60 days, don't forget to fill out the visa number on your arrival card! Doesn't matter if you enter by land or by air, only when you don't have a visa does it matter.

Thanks very much for the replies!

That has sorted it out for me and I will now be going to Ankhawat (excuse the spelling if it's wrong) for the holiday safe in the knowledge they'll let me back in to LOS for another 60 days! :o

Thanks again
