Thai Iced Coffees

Featured Replies

i've become a bit of an iced-coffee addict, especially when there's lots of work to be done :o .

after drinking a cup each day for about 3 days i get symptoms of caffeinism (i think it's called). my brain goes cloudy and i feel sleepy but also slightly agitated, i get less sleep, and generally have a less relaxed sense about my thoughts :D . no major problems, but something i want to avoid so i am going to give up coffee completely :D .

i'd just like to know if there is any information available out there about the strength of iced-coffees here in thailand (the 'street' stuff, so to speak). they are pretty tasty but how much caffeine do they contain, and is this amount generally safe? i see them heap in about 4 teaspoons full. what about the milk and cream?

There is a lot of caffeine in them but you are not drinking enough of them a day for the symptoms you state.

Cream and milk OK if kept in fridge and not off.

I drink 3 a day no problems. :o

i'm pretty sure that levels of caffeine toxicity/ tolerance are different for different people.

Yes, completely.

I can't tolerate a full glass of thai iced coffee either. Even 1/4 glass will have me slepless and over-hyped.

Aside from the caffeine issue there is also the sugar issue as the way they make it is very rich in processed sugar. Between that and the caffeine you will get a sharp spike in blood sugar followed by a dip, how much of a dip varies with individuals. Some people will have symptoms of hypoglycemia especially if it was taken on an emopty stomach. others will feel fine.

yep, i didn't imagine the cream and milk were doing much for my cholesterol levels either :D

i've had a bit of a withdrawal headache today, but it's no worse that other times. it's strange how you can be addicted to something without really realising it.
