From my experiences with the Thai culture, I thought is was a very good article. To further check the accuracy, I had my Thai wife read it and she also agreed that generally speaking the article was a fairly accurate portrayal of the Thai attitude and culture. If westerners took a little more time to understand the Thai culture a little better before coming to Thailand, I think it would enhance their experience in LOS.

Nicely written article.

Concise & to the point. Hopefully it will help some of the newbies & maybe even some of the 'less-than-happy' old timers understand & adjust accordingly to their adopted country.

I think you are right. It will probaby change a lot of approaches to life in thailand. Don't expect a rational conversation especially one that gets a little heated - just stand well back and wait for the explosion. It's probably better for all to try to feel their way carefully and only expose one's self to levels of Thai culture under carefully controlled circumstances much like deep sea diving - adjust to the differing pressures, so to speak. Be ready to have a lot of silly fun - it'll keep you young at heart and may add years to your life span. Don't get too close to the family thing as you can check out any time you like but you can never leave without causing a lot of big waves. Better to stay at a distance and just dip in as and when. Basically and like everything, enjoy the positives and be wary of the negatives - just like life anywhere.
