But exactly what has Thailand (or a Thai) given to mankind??

What exactly has 'your' country (or one of 'your' country men or women) given to mankind?

If, by way of example, 'your' country happened to be the United States of America, would you offer as one of its gifts the invention of atomic weapons and the only two times practical use has been of them to murder hundreds of thousands of human beings in an instant? In that case, imagine how awful the poor Thais must feel that they cannot begin to match such gift giving. :o

You might be speaking Japanese or German if the US had not invented that

As a matter of fact, I am speaking Japanese. :D Seriously.

Apart from that, if you believe what you wrote, you are either uninformed or highly misinformed.

. . . . .

I could . . . list a few things that my country (s) have given to mankind (and the exploits and achievements of some of their people)

When I ask you to provide examples, you say you 'could' list them, but don't. You talk the talk. Why not walk the walk?

OK, the following is not an exhaustive preamble but it is an example..............

If you don't know who these people are or what their contributions were just google them

Sir Edward (Weary) Dunlop

Frederick (Fred) Hollows - opthalomologist

Charles Hazlett Upham (the only British Commonwealth soldier to be awarded a bar to the VC. Two other men were awarded a bar however they were both medics)

Sir Edmund Hillary

Sir Peter Blake

Richard Pearce

Sir Brian Barrett-Boyes one of the worlds leading heart surgeons

First country in the world to give women the vote

First country in the world to have a forty hour work week

Jean Batten

Bill Hamilton (inventor of the jet boat)

William (Bill) Pickering (director of NASA when the first man set foot on the moon)

All Black rugby team - the most successful sporting entity (team or individual) in the annals of world sport.

Ernest Rutherford

The two countries that sacrificed more of their young men in both the 1st & 2nd world wars (on a pro rata basis) If it weren't for these soldiers (and others) just where do you think we would be today :o

And then there is their prowess on and in the sporting arena's of the world. No other countries come even close to emulating the achievements of the folk from the antipodes.

Oscars (Academy Awards) how many have been won by Thai's (don't worry, let me tell you, NONE) How many have been won by natives of the antipodes - google it.

You're on a loser to nothing if you want to compare the exploits, achievements and contributions made to the world by Australians and New New Zealanders with any made by natives of the realm :D

And when (and if) you are gonna mull over it remember to take into consideration that the combined population of the two countries is less that 40 % of the population of the realm.

Now is the part when he tells you all the horrible things that your country has done to all the other countries and indigenous peoples. His heart isn't really into it if it isn't the U.S. though.

So after all the talk about english breakfast I found myself at the Leprehaun on loi kroh last night and mentioned to the owner Porn (never met her before) that there was talk on TV that she USED to have the best english brekkie but now apparently she no longer does as the quality is not the same and the portions are not what they used to be when her husband was there.

She then said she knows who is saying bad things about her and indicated UlyseesG (by the guy with the bookshop)and I said why would he do that and she said because they were not happy that she split with her husband and they do not want her to do good.

she then tells me she uses the exact same products as before and she proceeded to show me her invoices from Yorkies.

Anyway I though I might as well order and see for myself and thought I might give her a bit of advice if it was not up to scratch

So it arrives minus the baked beans she bought them a few minutes later, the 3 eggs were all overcooked, bacon was good (only one rasher) as was the sausage (one) one slice of black puddiin and overall it was Ok and she also forgot the toast. I did mention the tomatoe ketchup was terible and she should use Heinz and she insisted it was heinz but it was rank

Anyway overall it was ok but I thought a tad expensive for just one rasher and one sausage 175 baht she said she had made it cheaper it used to be 195

best in Chiang Mai dont think so but its ok if they remember to bring it all at the same time and learn how to cook eggs

Breakfast at night?? HMMMM?? :o:D:D

And then to rub some salt into the wounds..... one of the referenced countries has been in 1st spot for God alone knows how long (several years anyway) as the cleanest in terms of corruption.

Where does Thailand feature (in terms of corruption) well it's around 90th equal with about another 15 3rd & 4th world countries.

There is a little stream called the Tasman Sea that separates us mate and that will never change. But it is still us against all the rest of them.

Surely Phil Taylor was/is far more successful than the All Blacks?

Thanks for that, UG. I am going to go way out on a limb and assume that since you understand the point in your first sentence, any others also capable of understanding it will without my running through it here.

You're quite wrong on your second point, though. I despise, with my whole heart in it, the stupidity, crassness, cruelty, thievery, rapaciousness, murderousness, patriotism, arrogance, injustice and so on of all groups of humans, not just Americans. :o

Posted (edited)

Well, that makes me feel better, anyway (that it is not just Americans).

My thing is that, I very much like Americans, in general - although every country has its bad seeds - and I do not hate other people for their nationalities, so I get tired of all the knee-jerk American haters out there, who mostly talk that way because it is fashionable at the moment.

There are lots of good Americans who are not stupid and want the world to be a better place, so don't lump us all together with a small minority of hateful, racist nuts that most of us want nothing to do with. :o

BB, I even had the op. At least I had the choice (and yes, I grabbed it. Better to be a small fish in a big pond rather than a minnow in a small pond)

Even know most of the words to Andrew's (Paterson's) immortal ballad :o

And BB, it's jbg (all lower case) if you would be so kind :D

Phil Taylor "Phil who" ?? I am not talking about fourteen years slinging darts. I am talking about 113 years (since 1896 in fact)

Feel better, if you like, but I don't think the problems with Americans are limited to a small minority of them, or even a large minority of them. On the chance that your blood pressure is starting to rise again, I will offer you a chance to settle down once more: my just expressed view of Americans is not limited to Americans. I don't think the problems with any nation or other large grouping of humans are limited to a minority of those in the group. Rather, they grow out of what humans are. The dim view I take of Americans is really just part of the dim view I take of humans generally. I like both most Americans and most humans individually (go figure), but loathe them as a nation and a species, respectively.

From what I can tell, you are referring to what humans should ideally aspire to as we - hopefully - evolve into a better species. I agree with you there, but think that we have a long way to go before we get there.

I don't get angry or disappointed about it as I certainly am not there myself. I suppose that our time has just not come yet, but hopefully it will.

But preferably after a Good Old Full English Breakfast, then we'll be ready, for whatever life throws at us ! :o
