We are in the process of finding a business in Koh Samui.

We have two children aged 6 years and 17 months, we have looked at the international academy near chaweng and wondered if anyone knew anything about this school.

Also it would be nice to meet other mums and children around my youngest daughters age too, it is going to take some time before I can speak Thai well enough to form friendships with the locals, though I am sure my daughter won't have any problems as she can't speak yet :o and children seem to be able to play well together without speaking each others language, and wondered if there were any organised activities or groups where farangs get together with their children.

Hello

My family and I are also moving to samui,we have two children an 8 year old and a 10 month old baby.

My partner has made enquiries about schools on the island and the most promising seems to be Dulwich College in Bophut which at present only has a primary school. Dependent upon demand they are hoping to extend this to higher age groups in the near future. He has also visited a very promising nursery behind the police station on the main ring road not far from Tesco Lotus (run by nuns).

I have never been to samui yet so I am very keen to meet people in a similar situation.

I copied this quote from another topic in this forum.

Ok so perhaps no one knows, or does but doesn't want to say.

Just to let anyone who is thinking of sending there child to the samui Dulwich school, this is what I have found out.

NONE of the teachers at present are qualified, unless hairdressing counts.

This to me is completely unaceptable for a school using the Dulwich name. I for one will be thinking of either setting up my own school to teach my children or send them to a school in Bangkok.

Why doesn't anyone on Samui understand the importance of education? Maybe they just don't care or just don't understand.

Thanks for the input, did think someone out there would be able to give more advice on this.

If anyone is interested in setting up a good quality school on Samui then let me know.

Be sure to check out the schools for yourself. I have two small children 2,5 and 1,5 years old so i don't have this problem yet. I have neighbours who had there children on St.John school but took them out and put them in a government school. It was not about the price because they have money enough but they did it because of the quality of education. Don't know the details but taking your children from that school tells something.

Khun Jean,

Have a child of 2 myself and one is on the way, so I'm looking into school options.

Know of more people who took their children out of St. Johns. They still beat the children in that school. Completely unacceptable in my point of view.

Dulwich is just a good laugh, absolutely a joke. Unfortunately. They're smart enough to charge the full Dulwich fees tho and unless you're on an expat salary, you couldn't even afford this school.

There's two more schools, one actually almost next to my house, but haven't heard good reports from either.

The school run by nuns may an option or just plain public Thai school.

Good schools are a serious problem on Samui and my hopes are set for the future for a good quality and affordable school to arrive on Samui.

Hi everyone, my husband is flying to samui as I speak, so I have been quite busy and not able to respond sooner.

I have heard that Dulwich school is very expensive and does not have any properly qualified teachers also.

Leemond do you know when you are moving there, are you visiting before you live there? and if it's not too nosy what will you be doing there. It is nice to talk to someone who is thinking of living there with two young children. I wake up some mornings, thinking 'what are we doing'. There is so much to sort out, from legalities in samui to sorting out everything at home, what to take etc But I think I worry about the children most of all.

Could you tell me anymore about the nursery as I can ask Chris to have a look while he is there. We know where tescos is - love the ball pool and the food court, certainly beats tescos where i live.

My husbands son went to the nursery behind the police station and he would recommend it, mind you this was 8/9 years ago and things do change.

Is this the same nursery behind tescos. If it isn't which police station? Thanks

:o It is true the school situation on Samui is pretty dire at the moment however there are many concerned parents who ARE trying to put this situation right, however this is not helped by the amount of trash and gossip that is flying around!

The update on Dulwich is that yes London have pulled the plug and our little school here is too close, though the teachers were not officially qualified the passion and skills they have shown in the past year is little more than miraculous, TIA is or rather WAS led by the unscrupulous Mr. Collin and we have since discovered his questionable affinity for young boys! though the teachers are reputed to be qualified they have unfortunately got a huge cross to bear, Mr. Geo the owner if TIA should also be kept at arms length.

I have heard of a new group called Network Samui who seem to be doing alot of activities for families and children perhaps check them out I think they have a website by the same name. I can find out for you if you like!

There is a new school opening called Greenhouse Int'l Preschool. I am not sure of the location but I know the lady who is setting it up and she is a fully qualified teacher. I will see if I can get more details and post them here. Good luck with your search.
