January 26, 200521 yr Good'ay fellow Aussies. I'm from the Manly area in Sydney. Had a really nice sunny day here yesterday. Day started off with a bacon and egg breakie on the beach then we watched the Warringah Shire pipe band perform, the surf clubs parade, bush bands, vintage car display, thong throwing competition etc. Then went for a walk to the club and had a few beers and looked out at the panoramic ocean views. Then walked to the next pub and a couple more beers. We ended up at the end of the day at the Manly Skiff Club having more beers and looking out at the yachts on the harbour, a very very nice and great day was had. ThaiPauly, why are we here in Thailand? For me I got a Thai wife, love Thailand, it's 1/5th the living costs compared to OZ, I love looking at Thai women, need a change, better drinking scene, enjoy the beautiful temples like "Doi Suthep".... many many reasons but today I'm in OZ so I will leave it at that. January 26, 200521 yr Happy Aus Day to all Ozmates in Thailand and elsewhere Sign in here if yer an Aussie..... and where you are from, bush or city. Me?........ Neutral Bay, Northside of the Harbour. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> me: Gold Coast, mostly. When not on the highway somewhere between Cairns and Sydney...
January 26, 200521 yr The beautiful city of Melbourne which has been a stinking hot bastard this week! The best end to Australia day was Lleyton Hewitt whipping that Argentinians arse 6 minutes before midnight, the poor sod was in agony, his legs were shagged, but he battled on in true aussie style!
January 26, 200521 yr I'm from the happy suburb of Preston, Melbourne. Didn't do much yesterday. Just enjoyed being Australian. Too hot anyway. The sun down south burns a lot more than up north. Something to do with the thin ozone layer. Not the same as Thailand. I can walk around with no hat on for most of the day in Thailand but couldn't do that in Melbourne for more than 30 minutes. Follicly challenged. Hope everyone in Thailand and Australia had a great day.
January 26, 200521 yr Author G'day A, agree about the sun burning here. In SYD it starts to burn at 2 mins past sunup, about 0530... Very scarey, the thinning of the ozone layer here is very real. I had never seen skin cancer before I left (1971), now, it's everywhere and it affects young and old alike. 5 mins in the sun is my limit here. I do like the lack of humidity and cooling breezes in the arvo though
January 27, 200521 yr So what is the reason for Autralia day, is that when you got your independance then? 26 January 1778. The first fleet sailed into Sydney Harbour and Captain Arthur Phillip took formal possession of the colony of New South Wales.

February 2, 200521 yr God's Country In the beginning God created day and night. He created day for footy matches, going to the beach and barbies. He created night for going prawning, sleeping and barbies. God saw that it was good. Evening came and morning came and it was the Second Day. On the Second Day God created water - for surfing, swimming and barbies on the beach. God saw that it was good. Evening came and morning came and it was the Third Day. On the Third Day God created the Earth to bring forth plants - to provide tobacco, malt and yeast for beer and wood for barbies. God saw that it was good. Evening came and morning came and it was the Fourth Day. On the Fourth Day God created animals and crustaceans for chops, sausages, steak and prawns for barbies. God saw that it was good. Evening came and morning came and it was the Fifth Day. On the Fifth! ! Day God created a bloke - to go to the footy, enjoy the beach, drink the beer and eat the meat and prawns at barbies. God saw that it was good. Evening came and morning came it was the Sixth Day. On the Sixth Day God saw that this bloke was lonely and needed someone to go to the footy, surf, drink beer, eat and stand around the barbie with, so God created Mates, and God saw that they were good blokes. God saw that it was good. Evening came and morning came and it was the Seventh Day. On the Seventh Day God saw that the blokes were tired and needed a rest. So God created Sheilas - to clean the house, bear children, wash, cook and clean the barbie. Evening came and it was the end of the Seventh Day. God sighed, looked around at the twinkling barbie fires, heard the hiss of opening beer cans and the raucous laughter of all the Blokes and Sheilas, smelled the aroma of grilled chops and sizzling prawns, and God saw that it was not just good, it was better than that, it was bloody good. IT WAS AUSTRALIA
February 2, 200521 yr beaudy tezza, a rip roarer of a tale mate! did you know the origin of the term mate? some say it is from the early days, when everyone would pitch in and help each other out, the only way Australia got on its feet was through mateship. others reckon its cos we are no good at remembering names!
