Arrest Warrants Issued For 14 Red Shirt Leaders And Thaksin

Recommended Posts

And while the reds scream about yellows and while the yellows scream about reds....... There is a lot more going on and everyone will miss it unless they take their yellow or red sunglasses off. Blind unanalytical hatred of ones perceived opponents just blinds a person to reality.

Well said. But that's how it's always been in Thailand, where there has been this perceived us (unified "Thais", good guys) and them (non-Thais, others, bad guys) or the old post-Black May angels/devils in politics, where positions are seen in extreme terms. It was only this intriguing split of Reds / Yellows that emerged from the divisions caused primarily (but not, exclusively) by the Thaksin era (2001-06), that has caused this new confusion about where people stand and what they fundamentally believe in, which is sowing so many seeds of trouble for the future. A fully functioning and independent judicial system are a pre-requisite, along with massive political reform (which you might like to call "New Politics" or something else, if the PAD connotation is too much for delicate constitutions). :o

Nah.

But they of course caused The Airport Blockade which in the eyes of many is worse than street battling, murder, personal attacks on the PM, burning buses, gas tankers, hijacked tanks etc.

After all, The Airport Blockade is the only thing supporters of the reds can hide behind - for it's the only PAD activity that caused loss to people who are NOT members of the crooked Samak/Somachai "government" (even though those losses are exclusively financial).

Best regards....

Chonburi UDD leader Sakda revealed he was living at Koh Kong

A Chonburi UDD leader Sakda Noppasit revealed he was residing in Koh Kong off the coast of Cambodia while claiming his self-exile was due to his lack of confidence in the country’s juridical processes.

Sakda Noppasit , a prominent member of the United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) of Chonburi who was charged with being part of the incitement causing the failure of the ASEAN Summits, claimed that he was now residing at Koh Kong, Cambodia as he was not confident in the juridical procedures of the country.

He said he knew that the police had set an aim to arrest all UDD leaders with no bail allowed. Therefore, he decided to flee from Thailand and temporarily live at Koh Kong with his two friends who were also issued arrest warrants against them.

When the national situation turned to normal, he would return to Thailand to surrender, he said.

Koh Kong has been linked with several fugitives from Thailand, including former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Difficult because they didn't hide, instead the reported themself to the police....

UDD lawyers ask Court to release 3 UDD core figures

Lawyers of the United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) have submitted a petition to the Criminal Court, requesting for the release of three UDD core figures.

The UDD's team of lawyers, consisting of Kharom Ponthaklang and Khamnuan Chalopatham, requested the court to release three UDD core figures, including Veera Musikkapong, Natthawut Saigua, and Weng Tojirakarn, who were detained on grounds of violating the emergency decree.

The lawyers said that the declaration of a state of emergency by the prime minister had not been approved by the Cabinet and therefore asked the court to give an urgent hearing on the matter.

The lawyers are waiting for the court to decide whether to grant their request for the urgent hearing.

They have also prepared five witnesses to testify including former Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat and former Criminal Chief Judge Manit Chitchanklab.

I wonder how hard they looked?

Given the Thai penchant for rolling over the moment they speak to a cop, the cops did not ask the right people the right questions.

Thai court issues warrants for protest leaders

BANGKOK: -- A Bangkok court has issued arrest warrants for 14 protest leaders, including deposed Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra who is in exile.

Metropolitan police spokesman Suporn Pansua said the arrest warrants issued Tuesday charge them with inciting a public disturbance and illegal assembly.

Demonstrations that plunged the Thai capital into chaos were called off earlier in the day by protest leaders. But not before rioting and clashes left two dead and more than 120 injured. Several leaders are already in police custody.

Thaksin fled the country last year before a court convicted him in absentia of violating a conflict of interest law. He addressed the crowd of protesters via video nearly every evening since the latest round of protests began on March 26.

Arrest warrants issued for Thaksin and 13 other protest leaders

Arrest warrants have been issued for Thaksin and 13 other pro-Thaksin United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) leaders for violating the state of emergency, which forbids gatherings of more than five people for political reasons.

Detention extended, new arrest warrants out

The Criminal Court has confirmed the right of police to arrest and continue detaining three leaders of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) apprehended in Bangkok after the collapse of the red-shirt protest.

The court confirmed on Thursday that the declaration of a state of emergency before the three men were arrested gave police the authority to detain them without a court warrant.

Veera Musikhapong, Natthawut Saikua and Weng Tojirakarn were taken to the court on Thursday in the morning.

Jakrapob running movement from secret base

By The Nation

Jakrapob Penkair, who went into hiding after being issued an arrest warrant, told the Straits Times that he was "in the midst of setting up a base" from which to run the redshirt movement.

Speaking from an "undisclosed location", Jakrapob said: "This is a place to work from, where people can brainstorm, follow the situation and analyse it closely."

The 42-year-old is the only redshirt leader to escape arrest for allegedly instigating disorder in the country. He disappeared on April 13, the day before other redshirt leaders brought the protest to a halt.

The protest was brought to an end after protesters created chaos by burning buses and tyres as well as clashing with Bangkok residents.

In the interview with the Singaporebased newspaper, Jakrapob said the assassination attempt on Sondhi Limthongkul, a key leader of the royalist People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), was an indication that "they" were trying to get topple the leadership of both the red and yellow shirts.

"They are trying to gain control now," he said, without identifying who "they" were.

The newspaper said this was the first contact Jakrapob he had made with foreign media, though he was said to have lined up interviews with wire agencies yesterday.

Jakrapob told the daily that the red shirts had spent the past couple of years educating people, and that the movement had entered the "action" phase.

"I believe people are now deciding whether peaceful means serve them best. We are not encouraging violence, but we have to admit that people have been repeatedly disappointed," he said.

"Legal standards have been clearly unfair and unjust. I am not saying there will be violence in the days ahead. But the remaining opportunities for a peaceful solution are decreasing every day.

"We still talk about a peaceful way in which people can get their rights back. But people have the right to defend themselves against aggression," he explained.

When asked to comment on the charges and arrest warrant against him, he said: "The whole system is distorted, there's no justice awaiting me or any of us."

While Thaksin and Jakrapob spew lies and misinformation to the media at every opportunity (and even the dim-witted Head may finally be waking up to this fact), it was refreshing to see a refreshingly honest and remarkably candid interview by Sukhumbhand Paribtra in Der Spiegel today. I don't know if it's been posted elsewhere, but I'll put the link below just in case it hasn't. It might even be worth carrying a new thread on it and another with Thaksin himself in the same issue, which is crammed full of the usualy Thaksin ©rap, so not worth the effort of reading unless you like repetitive <deleted> we've all heard a thousand times before from the bitter and twisted Dear Leader. :o

http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/...,619905,00.html

A senior Democrat, former governor of Bangkok and senior member of the Royal family saying the "Law of the Jungle prevails" is a sad indictment of the state of things in Thailand today and will not do investor confidence any good at all, I would imagine. :D

As it doesn't seem to be up anywhere else so far, and in the interests of balance, here's Der Spiegel's interview with Thaksin.

http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/...,619943,00.html

The only honest bit is comparing himself with a rat, but even that is a lie, because as the man himself said in a previous interview, he is actually a domestic dog. Sutthichai Yoon picked this up in one of his YouTube videos and compared Thaksin to a mangy dog (maa kee reuan).

Seems the police downright refused to help vs the Red Shirts at Patayya.

Nice job BIB.

At the same time seems no one knows exactly where Thaksin has been

hiding his players in army and police ranks. He was quite clearly doing that.

Pick the wrong general and you're alone, pick the right one and things go well.

As seen in Pattaya. Kamnan Po's personal police force

is not the best choice to protect a Dem in Pattaya, me thinks...

Makes for a rather paranoid leadership at the top.

Jakrapob: UDD won't surrender

The United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) will not stop its anti-government movements and is preparing another plan to topple the government, if Prime Minister Abhisit does not come up with a way to bring about strong and lasting reconciliation, UDD leader Jakrapob Penkair insisted.

Mr Jakrapob, who left the country to avoid an arrest warrant for inciting violence, gave an interview from an undisclosed location.

The red-shirt group may start a small anti-government rally in the next two to three days, and the protesters would abide by the law. The group may protest outside Government House again at some time in the future, he said.

He also admitted that he would go undercover for as long as needed.

"It is too late for the UDD to just yield and stop its movements, and nobody can tell what will happen next," said Mr Jakrapob.

He claimed that military officers were sent to blend in with the red-shirt group during the riot last week, and they were the ones who tried to discredit the UDD by burning public buses, inciting unrest and causing bloodshed.

As for the unsuccessful assassination attempt against People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) leader Sondhi Limthongkul, Mr Jakrapob believed it was staged by the army and the Democrat party, as this could be a signal for the army to eliminate both red-shirt and yellow-shirt groups.

Mr Sondhi became the victim, as he knew too much, he said.

In addition, the UDD said he was setting up a base for supporting the anti-government movements.

"The decision to end the UDD rally last week was not unanimous, but I respect other core members' decisions since I was not in the situation at the moment," said Mr Jakrapob.

He added that he had recently talked with former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra when he was in Dubai, but the ousted premier did not give orders to the UDD leaders during last week's protest.
