Dear all,

Currently I have a work permit with the Royal Thai Navy, and the work permit and visa are good for several more months--I am resigning my post(ie not finishing the contract). I have a new job starting May 1st, so I need advice as to what needs to happen so that I DONT have to leave the country. Is this possible? What should I be doing to make sure that this transition goes smoothly?

And, my wife is Japanese and holds a student visa. So last resort I can apply for a Non imm "O" then transfer to a work permit, i assume

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you.

To make the change to a new employer requires coperation between your old and new employers to get your new work permit on the day the old one is cancelled.

Then go to immigration on the date your old job ends and change your extension to your new employer. That means your new employer would need to have documents for the extension.

Hi,

I am in the same position as the OP, as UBONJOE wrote : To make the change to a new employer requires coperation between your old and new employers to get your new work permit on the day the old one is cancelled.

What sort of cooperation is needed between the two bosses?? My old boss is currently in Germany and won't be able to help, my new boss is here in Thailand and will be able to help!!

Are there certain papers i need from my old boss?? any further help here will be great... thanks

They have to cooperate to keep you from not having a work permit. One has the cancel your existing work permit the same day the other gets the new one. Or the old one agrees to allow the new one to be put oin the existing work permit until the new one is sorted out.

If the above is not done then you can end up on overstay because your extension is canceled because you were without a job or a work permit for even short period of time.

Thanks Ubonjoe,

Is it possible for my new boss to add their school onto my work permit today then on friday they can renew my work permit in their name?? I have a bad feeling that i will be taking a trip to the border on Friday night for a 15 day visa then another trip to Penang for a new Non-imm B :o

It all depends upon the local labor office and your new employer.

If things don't get sorted out you can get a 7 day extension to get more time.
